Ann walked through the wooden door of the research room. It was quite dim, but the room was big and empty. New, high-quality computers with large matte screens and long keyboards sat on gray desks.
Leon sat on an office chair in front of a small desk at the back of the room. He gave Ann a chill wave.
Ann gave a half-smile and sat down on a chair next to him, placing the file on the desk.
"Look through it if you want. The General gave it to me—it'll tell you everything about the mission," Ann said, leaning back in the leather chair.
"Don't know about that party situation. Seems risky, but the General instructed us to do so... I'm gonna have to get a dress or some formal attire."
Leon picked up the file off the light table and opened it, examining the pages.
"Wait, this company sounds so familiar..." Leon said suddenly, focusing on the file.
"You know it?"
"I think they're related to Umbrella."
"...Umbrella?" Ann questioned quietly.
"Right... forgot you weren't on that mission," Leon said, placing the file on the desk. "Umbrella is a biomedical company that makes bioweapons. September 30, 1998—it's a day I'll never forget. The cop inside me died that day. And that night, Raccoon City was wiped out, thanks to the bioweapons created by Umbrella." He paused.
"They are responsible for those zombies."
Ann froze, hearing Leon share.
"So... you think _____ is making zombies too?" Ann asked, frightened.
"Don't know..."
Ann waited for him to finish reading the file patiently.
"But they must be making something. I remember hearing about some collaborations and such on TV, but I don't remember what it was exactly."
Leon handed the file back to Ann.
"We should look at the hostages. Maybe we can investigate their families while we're there."
Ann opened the file and flipped to the page with the missing people. She studied their photos and information carefully. Leon leaned in closer to Ann to see the information as well.
"The General told you that people go missing in places where they do business, right? Maybe they heard some things they shouldn't have..." Leon mentioned, peering at the sheet.
"Yeah, to keep them silent. But if they are experimenting on humans, I'm sure they would be more precise about who they pick. Unless they're using the opportunity to turn these people into test subjects..." Ann mumbled, still reading the text.
She flipped the page and scanned through the faces.
That's when she spotted a very familiar face...
A picture of a young girl, no older than fifteen, was on the page. Dark hair and tan skin—just like Ann. A sweet, bright smile...
It was Tarah.
"What the fuck?" Ann mumbled quietly, her mouth trembling. She froze at the sight of her sister on the page, staring in shock and disbelief.
"Ann, what's wrong?" Leon said, leaning closer to her.
"That's my sister..." Ann said in shock, her voice breaking. She turned to Leon, tears running down her cheek.
"Why would they have my sister, Leon?" she asked, trembling.
"...I didn't know you had a sister," Leon admitted, looking at the picture of Tarah.
