Ann got up early to visit the nurse in the morning.

"Morning," Ann said as she walked into the infirmary.

The nurse stopped writing in her log and turned from her table to Ann.

"Good morning, Ann," the nurse greeted with a smile. "Let's see that thigh, shall we?"

When Ann arrived after the mission, she was taken straight to the infirmary. She was able to get it stitched up and properly treated. However, the nurse instructed her to come back after a while to make sure it was healing properly.

Ann sat on the examination table.

"You sure you don't remember what sliced your leg?" the nurse asked as she examined Ann's leg after unwrapping the wound.

"I'm sure," Ann replied.

Her leg looked and felt much better, but it still wasn't fully healed despite the nurse's treatment and stitches.

"Well, whatever it was, it was very unsterile. I'll prescribe you some more antibiotics."

The nurse cleaned Ann's wound again, applied more antibiotics, and wrapped it with a new, clean bandage.

"Thank you," Ann said, looking at her wrapped thigh.

"Anytime, Ann. That mission wasn't easy."

Ann got off the examination table.

"Careful!" the nurse said, watching her.

The nurse sat back at her desk and continued writing in her log.

Ann walked down the hallway to the cafeteria. Breakfast should be served by now.

She picked up a tray of yogurt and granola and sat down at a table, waiting patiently for the mail to come in.

"Ann! Mail!" an agent called out and tossed an envelope onto the table.

Ann picked up the letter and opened it.

She pulled out a picture of Tarah in her soccer uniform, standing on a field surrounded by her teammates.

Hi Ann! My team won the soccer game! I hope by the next time we have a game, you'll be able to come! I miss you—it's been so long since we've seen each other. What have you been up to? Maybe we can have lunch together one day? I can't wait to get your letter, Ann!

Love, your sister, Tarah!

Ann smiled sadly at the message, running her fingers over the flowers and decorative border on the paper. Tarah loved scrapbooking, always putting effort and love into her notes.

She really wanted to be there with her sister, but she couldn't just leave the agency like that.

All that training would go to waste.

She had joined the agency in the first place because they saw her potential and asked her to join.

At least she would be properly fed, clothed, and guaranteed a job.

Tarah was so young—Ann had no choice but to let Child Protective Services take her. Ann had been almost old enough to live on her own by that time anyway.

Ann wiped her eyes, placed the note in her pocket, and finished her food.

She got up from her seat and went to train for the day.

The agency wasn't any less harsh with their training, even though she was injured.

After training was done, she walked back to her dorm room, sweaty and sore. She sat on her bed and placed the note she received earlier into her pouch, still thinking about the disorganization of her letters from the day before.
