"We've arrived!" the captain called out.

Ann opened her eyes. Bright morning light streamed through the cabin.Jessica woke up as well, realizing what the captain had just said.

"Kids, wake up! We're here!" she said excitedly.

Eric, Theo, and Lily jumped up.

"Really?" Lily exclaimed, getting off the seat and running to the door.

Jessica slowly got up from her seat and walked out the door.

"Ann, I can't thank you enough," she said, turning to Ann with a smile.

Ann smiled back.

"Don't worry about it—it's my job," she replied kindly.

Jessica walked out of the room. Ann stepped out of the cabin, admiring the sunny, bright morning. The general and a few agents were already outside, waiting by the dock. Two black cars were parked nearby—one for Jessica and her kids, and the other for Ann and Leon.

The general's face was calm, unlike his usual tense expression.

Ann carefully stepped off the boat, giving the general and the agents a slight smile. The general noticed the bandage on her leg.

"Here, let me help you," he said as two agents approached to assist Ann.

"Please, I'm fine," she said, brushing them off once she was safely on the dock.

The captain carried her bags off the boat and loaded them into the car's trunk. Jessica, Eric, Theo, and Lily stood nearby.Leon emerged from the side of the cabin and disembarked as well.

"Morning," Ann greeted Leon.

"Morning, Ann," he replied professionally.

"You've done well, Ann," the general said proudly, offering her a small smile.

"Yeah, let's just get in the car already," Leon said impatiently, heading toward the dock.

"I can't thank you both enough. If you hadn't come for us, I don't know what we'd have done," Jessica said with a big smile.

Lily ran up to Ann and hugged her tightly, reminding Ann of Tarah.

Ann awkwardly returned the hug, holding Lily stiffly. She hadn't been hugged in a long time.
"Thank you, Ann," Lily said, squeezing her tightly.

"Yeah, anytime, kid," Ann replied gently. Lily let go and stood next to her mom.

"We'd better get going," Jessica said, motioning toward the car. Theo and Eric, their faces lit up with excitement, ran toward it.

"Thank you!" Theo called out, ecstatic.

Leon gave Jessica an awkward smile before getting into the car.Jessica was about to leave but turned back to Ann.

"Oh, here," she said, slipping off Leon's jacket from her shoulders and handing it to Ann.
"Tell Leon I said thank you," Jessica added with a smile before walking to the car.

Ann smiled and slowly made her way to the car. She felt proud—she had completed her first mission successfully.

Sitting in the car beside Leon, she handed him the jacket.

"Here, Jessica says thank you," Ann said.

Leon took the jacket without a word.

Ann looked out the window as the car started to drive off. She was looking forward to a hot shower. After some time to recover, she knew she'd be back in harsh, strict training.

Ann placed her bag on the floor next to her bed and retrieved her sleep uniform from the assigned drawer, setting it on the bed. She'd have to wait for permission to take a bath.

Sitting on the floor, she opened a pouch containing letters from Tarah. Ever since their separation, Tarah had sent letters and pictures, which Ann cherished deeply. Of course, Ann sent letters back, though she was never allowed to send pictures. Cameras and phones were strictly forbidden.

Sometimes, she found her letters already opened—security often inspected them. Ann remembered when one of her roommates was caught with a small Polaroid camera. It was confiscated, and the roommate was punished by being made to clean the cafeteria during her personal time.

Ann smiled as she reread one of Tarah's letters. Mail arrived during breakfast, so she looked forward to seeing if her sister had sent a new message.

A trainee entered the room.

"Hey, showers are open!" she called out.

The girls quickly grabbed their shower bags and left the dorm. Ann gently put her letters back in the pouch, organized by date, and tucked it into her drawer. She collected her shower bag and headed to the bathroom.

Walking down the hallway, she passed Leon and gave him a slight smile. He nodded back.

Lights-out was at 10:00 p.m.

Ann sat on her bed, deciding to look through her letters again. They were precious to her, and she had nothing better to do before bed.

Opening the pouch, she noticed something odd—some of the dates were out of order. Ann was always meticulous, arranging them by year, month, and day. She wondered if she had accidentally mixed them up.

Her roommate had been near her bunk earlier... could she have gone through Ann's things?

Ann took a deep breath and reorganized the letters, trying not to dwell on the thought. After double-checking the order, she placed the pouch back in the drawer and climbed into bed, pulling the covers up to her shoulders.

"Night, Ann," her roommate called.

"Night," Ann replied, drifting off to sleep.
