ꕀ seven boys, seven girls, and one semester left before the end of the year. What could possibly happen?
"Yeah right, you definitely get mad," he chuckled lightly.
"Well... If I do get mad, it's only because you're irritating."
Renjun hummer thoughtfully. "That's funny, I was gonna say the same about you."
Yujin shot him a glare. "God you're infuriating. Can't you go bother someone else?"
"Nah, you're my favourite person to bother."
She rolled her eyes. "I feel sorry for your friends," she said as she picked up her pace, but he only matched it and the corner of his lips twitched up.
"Admit it," he said after a moment, tilting his head to peer down at the shorter girl. "You love the challenge."
Yujin stopped in her tracks, staring up at him through her eyebrows. "Challenge? What challenge?"
"You know, this," he said simply, gesturing between them and Yujin rolled her eyes and continued to walk- Renjun following suit. "You'd be bored without me."
She scoffed a laugh. "Bored? I'd be at peace without you."
"Sure you would," he teased, walking a few steps in front of her and turning around to face her- now walking backwards. "Face it, Kim Yujin, you like having me around."
"Quite the opposite actually. I hate having you around."
Renjun smirked, "that's a strong word."
"Want me to use something strong?" She raised an eyebrow at him, speed walking past him and becoming oblivious to the wide grin Renjun donned.
But she heard his chuckle, clearly amuse, and that made her speed off into the science classroom to escape his presence.
As she settled into her seat, the teacher, Miss Choi, clapped her hands together to get her students attention.
"Alright class, if you open up your syllabi for this semester, we will be discussing real-world application through interactive activities and labs. Meaning, we will be doing a term long project that will require both research and hands-on experimentation," the teacher started, turning on the projector and pulling up her power point. A wave of excitement streamed through Yujin as she began to think about what she would do.
"The assignment will be split into four main tasks, research, conducting, analysis, and crafting a full report with your conclusions... and you'll be working in pairs-"
Yujin stiffened.
"And to make this fair, I have decided the pairings based on your performances in class to make sure each and everyone of you is getting challenged at your own levels."
Yujins stomach dropped and she gulped, crossing her fingers under her desk.
Please let me be with Park Jungho, please let me be with Park Jungho.
Besides Renjun and Yujin, Jongho was the next best in the class.
"Okay, so," Miss Choi started, glancing down at her list. "Na Eunjoo and Im Minji. Lee Seonu and Jung Jimin. Kim Yujin and," she held her breath. "Huang Renjun."
Her eyes squeezed shut as a wave of emotions rippled through her all at once- dread, frustration, annoyance, and oddly, a slight hint of reluctant excitement.
Of course I'm stuck with him. This is so my luck.
She lazily looked over to Renjun who was already staring at her with an unreadable expression, but he quickly turned back to the front and nodded to the teacher when she asked if everyone got a partner.
What is he thinking about? She thought as she looked at his side profile. I bet he's actually happy to be partnered with me so he can just annoy me. She groaned slightly, slouching in her chair before turning back to the teacher.
"Alright, now the piece of paper I'm handing around has a list of different experiments with different difficulty levels for you to choose from. The first part to this assignment is due in two weeks, so I expect you all to be diligent in your time management." Miss Choi said, handing out pieces of paper to each student.
Yujin noticed a pair of feet come into view as she stared at the ground. Slowly, she looked up to see Miss Choi with the piece of paper outstretched to her.
"This will be good for you Yujin, trust me," she said, as if already knowing the girl was gonna see her after class to change partners.
Yujin got the hint, changing partners was not an option.
Gently, the girl took the piece of paper from the teachers hand, thanking her with a small smile before watching as she moved done the line.
Yujin glanced back over to Renjun who was accepting the piece of paper and something unexpected stirred inside her.
For the first time ever, they weren't competing, they were going to be working together.
And that felt weird.
This is going to be one long semester.
