Out of the seven classes Yujin took, she shared three with Renjun- Math, Science, and Korean.
Which were far too many classes to share in her opinion, his presence in class felt like an annoying itch that you just can't reach.
Tuesdays were the worst days, math and then double science straight after. 140 minutes straight of his presence- how dreadful.
The harmonious chirping of birds welcomed her arrival to school. The morning sun encased the hallways with a soft glow as she made her way towards math class.
The winter had been dreadfully long this year and as the days were finally longer and warmer, Yujin was excited for summer.
Adjusting the heavy bag slug over her shoulder, Yujin entered the classroom. Her step faltering for a second as her eyes landed on Renjun.
He was sat near the window, his face half-illuminated by the soft golden light and he didn't even look up. He was completely absorbed in his textbook, flipping through the pages as his fingers drummed lightly on the table.
Yujin sighed through her nose, moving her way through the seats until she reached hers, the seat next to him.
Damn assigned seating.
She avoided looking, more focused on pulling out her own notebook and textbook, but she knew he knew she was there and she knew it was a power play to not recognise her presence.
Soon, the class filled up and the teacher arrived. Wasting no time, he began to write equations onto the board as well as chapters to read. "Today, we will be continuing yesterday's lesson on advanced algebra. There will be a test on this in a few weeks, so pay attention."
Yujins posture straightened as a small smile pulled at her lips. She was good at algebra- great at it actually, it was one of her strong suits.
She always got the answers right. But so did he.
As the teacher finished writing the equations, Yujin started scribbling down the answers, making sure to prove her work as she went through them one by one.
Sparing a glance at Renjun, her eyes narrowed as she noticed how nonchalant his posture was. His elbow was propped against the table, his cheek resting in his palm as he scribbled down his answers. He seemed bored. And that made her insides twist.
He wasn't rushing, he took his time and swept through the questions with ease, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Like it wasn't even a challenge.
Yujin tore her gaze from him and exhaled through her nose. She didn't understand how it did it so naturally, how everything came to him so naturally.
She had spent years studying, working on memorising and refining her focus so she could be the best. She had to be the best. Her parents made that clear.
