"It's tonight we can't just, you know settle in" I ask
"Of course not! There is so much to do we like to get started right away! Hopefully I'll see you around bye Zamora!"
She leaves and I take off my duffle bag. I start to feel the most emotional I ever felt in a long time. I'm not sure why. Probably because everything's finally seeking in. To push my thoughts back I start to unpack. I decide to take the top bunk because it doesn't bother me and I know others may complain out it.
I've finish unpacking and my roommate still not here. I don't know how I want them to see me... do I but my uniform on now or let them see who I truly am.
There it is. That feeling.
I'm going backwards, I gained confidence in my style and the way I look. I'm questioning my self all because of this stupid uniform. Oh my gosh.
No Zamora. You are fine with being who you are. No outfit can change that... but what others think weighs on my mind too, which it never did but new surroundings are a real effect and-
The door opens and I hear two voices one sounds like a mentor telling the girl about the room like the red head did me.
Welp any idea I had it's too late now. Hopefully I don't get an evil homophobic bitch.
Realizing I still have my phone, I sit on my bunk and pull it out and act like I'm doing something as my roommate walks in.
I look up at her and she looks up at me. She gives me a knowing smirk and wave that shows she doesn't wanna be here to. It gives me comfort I know I need. The main door clicks closed signaling the mentor left. So I introduce myself first,
"Hey, I'm Zamora."
"Hi, it's Kylie."
The room feels with silence as she looks around the room.
"They can't be fucking serious." She looks up at me holding the uniform up to her body.
I laugh,
"I know right, what's getting me is the skirt"
"You know, I think they have shorts"
"Really?!" I asks with to much excitement so I cough to act like wasn't.
"Yea let's see..." she opens a tiny side table I looked over and there they are, khaki shorts!
"Sweet, want a pair?" She asks me
"Of course"
She throws me a pair and I get down from the bunk and go to the bathroom to change. It has two sinks which is good and will probably ease the pain of the girls with the 5 hour morning routine. After change I look and the mirror and laugh. I look like a nerdy scout. Before I leave the bathroom I knock to make sure Kylie's not still changing she lets me know I can come out.
"alright don't laugh." I step out and we both stare at each other in silence for 5 seconds before we break out into uncontrollable laughter.
"Damn we gonna look like this alll summer!" Kylie says with a smile.
Since I'm finally at ground level I take in who I'll be staying with. Kylie doesn't look like the average rich white girl. She about my height; 5'6 and is small enough where her shirt fits a little baggy. She has her hair cut into a bob with dyed purple ends. She reminds me of someone who'd wear heavy costume makeup with everyday attire. When looking at her smile I notice her braces that are too big for her mouth and let out a light chuckle but continue the conversation.
"You're right, we might as well make it our own"
Kylie gives a knowing smirk and reaches in her bag
Kylie and I talked as we created bullshit with our uniforms. We know we might get in trouble but we're having fun either way. Kylie put some pins around her collar and rolled her sleeves ups, she also got some markers and drew on the back of her shirt. I can say her doodles are pretty impressive. I didn't do too much though, I left my shirt untucked sagged the shirts a little and put a jacket on. Kylie definitely went all out.
"Girl they gonna get youu" I say looking her over.
"Naw they know not to try me" She says with a smirk
That's corny.
"You've been here before?"
"Yep, this is my 3rd year"
I pause for a second before asking on.
"Why do you come beck?"
"My mom's an asshole, thinks I'm to "rebellious" and what not, but obviously this shit not working"
"Oh..."
I feel bad, they probably have a horrible relationship if her mom keeps sending her here and paying all that money for no results.
"Don't worry about it though." She says
I just nod in response
"I think we should start heading out now, we might catch some of the other girls in this hall."
I say okay and we walk to the door. I honestly forgot about the other girls but I kinda wanna hear their "stories" too.
When we walk out the room, the door across from us opens too. Two girl walk out. Both are really pretty.
They continue whatever conversation they were having until they walked out and noticed us.
"Oh hey" the dark-skin girl says.
"Hey I'm Kylie, this is Zamora" I wave and the one waves back.
"I'm Jada this is Laila"
Laila doesn't hold any expression on her face. She just stares with a tiny tiny smile that shows she's not trying to be rude but wants to conversation to be over.
"Well nice to meet you guys, I guess we will be with each other all summer" Kylie says with a laugh knowing ain't shit funny.
"Likewise. Wanna walk to the meeting together?" Jada asks
Kylie says yea as they lead the way. I have no clue where we are going so I just fall behind. So does Laila who still hasn't said anything. I mean I haven't either but I at least made a gesture.
Kylie and Jada walk together talking about whatever, and I notice how the other girls made their uniforms their own too. Laila is wearing a pink sweater vest over the grey collared shirt, and she also pulled her skirt up higher than I know it's supposed to be. She has long hair down her back which looks to be natural. She gives wealthy daddies girl that doesn't take no for an answer. Even with her unfriendly demeanor, I'm interested to know more about her.
