One evening, as the sky was painted with hues of pink and purple, they sat side by side on the bench by the pond again, just like they had before, but this time, their hands brushed against each other.

Neither of them pulled away.

For the first time in a long time, there was no need for words. They didn't need to say anything-they simply knew.

The days passed, and though Y/N hadn't fully let Scoups back in, she hadn't pushed him away either. Their connection lingered-unspoken, unresolved. But fate had other plans.

The annual senior summer camp had arrived, an event meant to celebrate their final year before stepping into the real world. It was supposed to be fun, full of late-night talks, campfires, and team activities. But for Y/N, it was just another place where she couldn't seem to escape him.

Scoups was everywhere. In the morning assemblies, during the hiking trips, even at the lakeside where she had hoped to find some peace. He wasn't overbearing-he never forced her to talk-but his presence was undeniable. And as much as she hated to admit it, part of her didn't mind.

"So stubborn" Y/N muttered under her breath when she caught him glancing her way again during the team relay games.

Yeri, who had been watching the silent push-and-pull between them for weeks, smirked. "Still pretending you don't care?"

Y/N scoffed. "I'm not pretending. I just... I don't know how to deal with this."

Yeri nudged her playfully. "Maybe stop running and actually listen to what your heart wants?"

Y/N rolled her eyes but didn't deny it.

Later that evening, the campfire blazed under the starry sky, laughter and stories filling the air. Y/N sat at the far edge of the circle, letting the warmth of the fire chase away the cool night air. She thought she could finally enjoy a moment of peace.

But then, Scoups stood up.

His voice was steady, yet Y/N could hear the slight tremor of nerves as he spoke. "I have something to say."

The group quieted, eyes turning toward him.

"There's someone here that I hurt" he continued, his gaze landing on Y/N. "And I don't expect her to forgive me just because I regret it. But I need her to know that I do. I regret every moment I made her doubt her worth. I regret every time I let my fear push her away. And if I could take it all back, I would."

The fire crackled in the silence that followed.
Y/N's heart pounded. He was doing it-baring his soul in front of everyone. No games. No pretenses. Just raw, honest truth.

Then, he turned fully to face her.

"Y/N, I don't care how long it takes. I'll keep showing up, not because I expect you to take me back, but because you matter to me. And I'll spend as long as it takes proving that."

Y/N felt her breath hitch. She could feel every eye on her, waiting, expecting. But none of it mattered. Not the campfire, not their friends. Only him.

She stood slowly, meeting his gaze. "And if I never forgive you?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Scoups swallowed, nodding. "Then I'll still be here. Because this isn't about me anymore. It's about you. About what you need."

The sincerity in his voice cracked something inside her. The walls she had built, the fear she had held onto-it all wavered. Maybe, just maybe, she had been so busy protecting herself that she hadn't realized he was no longer the same person who had hurt her.

"You're so persistent" she murmured, a ghost of a smile playing on her lips.

Scoups' eyes softened. "Only for you."

For the first time in a long time, Y/N let herself believe. Maybe they weren't perfect, maybe they still had wounds to heal-but she was ready to try.

And just like that, the invisible strings that had always tied them together finally pulled them back where they belonged.

Together.
