Y/N rolled her eyes, but she kept walking, not looking back.

“Right” she muttered, sarcasm lacing her tone. “You just happen to be going the same way. Every single time.”

“I’m not lying” Scoups replied, his voice more serious now, a bit of frustration edging through. “I’m... I’m just trying to be near you.”

Y/Ns steps faltered for just a moment, but she quickly regained her composure, continuing to walk at a brisk pace, determined to stay ahead. “Why? Why now?”

There was a long pause before Scoups answered, his words coming out slowly, as if they carried more weight than he was ready to admit.

“Because I screwed up” he said quietly, the words almost lost in the space between them. “And I... I don’t want to lose you.”

Y/N stopped walking again, her heart pounding in her chest. She finally turned around to face him, her eyes narrowing slightly. “Lose me?” she asked, her voice low but filled with incredulity. “You had me, Scoups. You had me, and then you pushed me away. I don’t understand. Why... why did you do that?”

The question hit him like a punch in the gut. He opened his mouth to speak, but the words got caught in his throat. For a moment, he didn’t know how to explain. How to make her understand.

He had wanted her. He had wanted all of her—her smile, her laughter, the way she made him feel like he could breathe again. But at the same time, he had been scared. So damn scared of how much he needed her, of how much he wanted her to need him too.

“I was scared” Scoups finally admitted, his voice soft but raw. “Scared that if I got too close, I’d lose myself in it. Scared that if I let you in too much, I wouldn’t know how to pull back when things got too real.”

Y/N stared at him, her expression unreadable. Her heart was hammering in her chest as she listened to him speak, and for the first time in weeks, she felt the walls around her heart start to crack.

“That doesn’t make any sense” she said, her voice shaking slightly. “You pushed me away when I needed you the most. And now, when it’s too late, you’re suddenly here? Why? What changed?”

Scoups shifted uneasily, his gaze falling to the ground for a moment. When he spoke again, his voice was quieter, more vulnerable.

“I wasn’t ready, Y/N” he confessed. “I thought I had all the time in the world. I thought I could keep you at arm’s length and still be okay. But I was wrong. I don’t want to live without you in my life. And I... I can’t change the past but I can try to make up for it.”

Y/N blinked, her chest tightening as the weight of his words sank in. She felt the familiar ache in her chest—the same ache she had felt every time she saw him from afar, every time she pushed him away, knowing that a part of her was still holding on.

But she couldn’t let him in again, not yet. Not until he proved that he was truly different.

“Why didn’t you tell me this before?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Scoups’ jaw tightened and he ran a hand through his hair in frustration. “I was an idiot, Y/N. I was too proud to admit that I was wrong. I let my fear control me.”

“Fear?” Y/N scoffed, shaking her head. “Fear of what? Of me?”

“Of... of how much I cared about you” he said, his voice softening. “I didn’t want to let myself get caught up in something I wasn’t ready for. But the truth is, I was already caught up. I just didn’t know how to handle it.”

The words hung in the air between them, fragile and raw. Y/N stared at him, her mind racing. Part of her wanted to reach out to him, to let him back in. But the other part—the part that had been hurt, betrayed—held her back.

Scoups took a step closer, his eyes searching hers, as if hoping to find some glimmer of understanding, some sign that she was still with him.

“I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness” he said quietly, his voice breaking just slightly. “But I’m not going anywhere, Y/N. Not until you tell me you’re done with me.”

The silence stretched between them, thick and heavy. Y/N felt her breath catch in her throat, torn between her desire to forgive and the need to protect herself. Finally, she spoke, her voice barely audible.

“I’m not done with you” she said, her words shaky. “But I can’t just forget everything. I need time. I need to know that you won’t hurt me again.”

Scoups nodded, his heart swelling with relief. “I swear, I won’t. I’ll do whatever it takes, Y/N. I’ll wait. As long as it takes.”

She looked at him for a long moment before turning away. “We’ll see” she said softly, her voice distant.

And with that, she began walking again, but this time, Scoups didn’t fall behind. He stayed by her side, his presence steady and unwavering, as if to show her that he wasn’t giving up.
