After going to Bailey to get Meredith reassigned, Addison kissed her goodbye while the intern went to talk to her friends before going back to work, now on the redhead's service. When she got to the basement, the blonde felt like she was holding her breath and there was an obvious tension in the air. Meredith plopped down next to Cristina on a gurney and turned towards Izzie, George, and Alex. "I take it you guys have questions."
"You think?" Izzie scoffed. "You've been dating Dr. Montgomery for the past three months even though she's only been divorced for a month?"
"Yes." Meredith nodded. "Well kind of. In the beginning it was just sex but we admitted to having feelings that went deeper than just sex when Mark Sloan showed up, so three weeks into seeing each other, but we didn't label our relationship as we were girlfriends until the day her divorce was final." She looked at her friends to see how they were taking it: Alex just had a smirk on his face, Izzie looked irritated, and George looked at her as if she killed his dad.
"You left Derek because you didn't want to be with someone who was married, but you slept with Addison and had a full blown affair with her while she and Derek were still married. I don't understand!" Izzie screeched. "And you lied to us for months!"
"Iz calm down, she never lied to us. Lying would have been if we asked if she was seeing Montgomery and she said no. In fact she told us the truth based on what we asked." Alex rationalized. "We kept asking who her mystery man was and she told us there was no mystery man, and that was true, it was a mystery woman. It's not her fault that we didn't think to ask if it was a mystery woman and she's not required to come forward about her sexuality if she doesn't want to. We're not entitled to know that she's bisexual."
"Okay you have a point." Izzie relented. "But that doesn't explain her leaving Derek for being married and then sleeping with his wife."
"I didn't leave Derek because he was married, I left Derek because he didn't tell me that he was married. Had he told me the truth the night we met, I'm not saying I would have stayed with him, but I might have. Had he just said to me 'hey look, I'm married but my wife cheated on me and I left.' I would have taken it as they were separated and asked if he was getting a divorce and however he answered that question probably would have determined whether or not I started anything with him." Meredith explained. "With Addison, I knew the truth from the beginning. I knew she was married, but I also knew that despite Derek choosing her that their marriage wasn't going anywhere. He only chose her out of obligation, not because he really wanted to fix their marriage. Addison has been honest with me whereas Derek pursued me on a lie, which in turn made our entire relationship a lie."
"I just can't believe that you like women." George put his head in his hands. "How could you keep something like that from me?"
"As Alex said, I'm not required to tell anyone about my sexual preferences because no one, whether we're friends or not, is entitled to that information." Meredith shrugged. "I'm sorry if my not telling you that I'm bisexual hurts your feelings, but it's none of your business."
"Does anyone have any other questions?" Meredith sighed.
"I'm just trying to wrap my head around everything." Izzie admitted. "If you're happy that's great, but I never saw this one coming. I assume Cristina knew?"
"Of course I did!" Cristina snorted. "But Mer didn't tell me. She told me that she was seeing a woman, but not who it was. I figured that one out on my own and I'm honestly shocked that no one else did."
"So you told Cristina it was a woman but not me?" George glared at Meredith with hurt in his eyes.
"Yes, because Cristina is my best friend and you are a creep who smells me and acts like that's normal behavior." Meredith rolled her eyes. "I needed advice so I went to Cristina, it's as simple as that."
