I woke early again the next morning and stretched my arms out in my hammock with a silent yawn. Then I wiped my eyes and looked around at everyone else who was still sleeping but something felt off. I kept looking around and finally noticed what was off, Newt wasn't in his hammock.

I continued looking around to see where he was and noticed that Minho and Alby weren't in their hammocks either. As I was beginning to get out of my hammock, I suddenly heard someone approach me from behind and I gasped in surprise. When I turned, I noticed that it was just Newt, who put a finger to his mouth.

"What are you doing up so early?" I asked him in a whisper as I began to get off of my hammock.

"Alby's going off into the Maze with Minho," he whispered, and I looked at him with surprise.

We both began walking quietly away from the homestead once I finally got off of my hammock and had put my shoes on, "Why's Alby going out there?"

"He's going to check where Ben was yesterday," he said, "Ably's worried that the Grievers are now coming out during the day."

I shook my head, "Isn't that dangerous?" I asked, "What if the Grievers are out during the day?"

Newt sighed, "Let's just hope for the best," he said, "And besides, Alby and Minho know what they're doing."

I nodded, although not fully convinced of their safety. "Alright, let's just hope so."

We finally arrived at the closed doors where Minho and Alby were waiting and they greeted us. "Hey Newt," said Alby, "And Y/N."

We both smiled in reply, "Hey, guys." said Newt, and soon after he said that, the doors began to open and we all turned to watch them.

"We should go now," said Minho, as the doors were almost completely open.

Newt and I nodded as they both turned towards the Maze, "Be safe out there." I called, as they began to run off into the Maze with a wave of goodbye.

Newt and I turned to each other, "They'll be fine, right?" I asked him for the millionth time.

"Yeah, they'll make it," he said firmly, although I could tell that his firmness was just to cover up his own undying doubts. I just decided to shrug it off since they should make it... right?

I was soon stuck in chores again and was now working hard on cutting down the remaining stump of a tree with Newt. We had already cut the tree down and cut it into smaller pieces so that it was easier to move. Now, we were just stuck with getting the bottom of the tree out of the ground.

As I hacked at the bottom of the stump with my large knife, the roots did nothing to help the process, but Newt and I kept pressing, knowing it had to be done.

After a while of doing this, Chuck and Thomas walked over and greeted us.

"Hey," I replied in greeting, as I stood up from my crouched position and turned to look at them, a smile on my face. "How have you two been this morning?"

Chuck grinned, "Pretty good, I slept great."

Thomas shrugged, "Yeah, I'm doing good."

I nodded, "Good," I said, then got back to hacking at the tree stump with Newt.

As we kept at the stump, Chuck and Thomas sat down and started talking to one another until Thomas looked at us again. And it wasn't long until he began asking more questions like yesterday.

"Why would Alby go into the Maze?" he asked us, more specifically Newt. "I mean, he's not a Runner."

Newt paused at hacking and looked at Thomas as he wiped his forehead, "Alby went to retrace where Ben was yesterday." he said, then looked back at the stump, "And are you going to help?"

Thomas shook his head, knowing that he had more questions to ask, "But why would Ably go back to where Ben had just been stun-"

"Alby knows what he's doing, alright," Newt said, cutting him off, "He knows better than any of us."

Thomas suddenly looked confused, "What does that mean?"

Newt sighed, "You know," he said, "Every month that box comes up with a new Greenie. Now there must have been someone who came up first, right?"

Thomas nodded slightly, beginning to understand what Newt was trying to tell him.

"Someone had to spend a whole month in the Glade alone," Newt continued, "And that person was Alby."

Newt looked back down and began hacking at the stump again but I kept looking up at Thomas, "It couldn't have been easy for him," I said, causing Thomas to look over at me, "But once those other boys began coming up, he saw the truth."

Newt stopped for a while and looked back up, wiping his forehead, "He learned that the most important thing is that we all have each other." he said, "That all of us are in this together."

I looked down and began chopping the tree again and so did Newt. It's hard and tedious work to get a tree stump out of the ground but it serves a good purpose by giving us more wood and space.

As we kept hacking at it, Thomas finally made up his thoughts and got up, grabbing a large knife like the ones Newt and I were using. Then he walked over and began hacking at the tree with us.

I grinned, "There you go, Greenie." I commented, as he put all of his effort into hacking at the roots of the stump.

Then I looked over at Newt who was also still hacking and he had the ghost of a smile across his lips.
