Chapter 3 - Remembering his Name

That night, the Glade was filled with loud bursts of laughter and cheering as everyone gathered in a circle around the unlit bonfire. I was chatting with a bunch of guys, all of us grinning from ear to ear. Suddenly, one of the guys I was talking to gestured towards the bonfire where Alby and the other Keepers were holding torches that were blazing bright. We all turned to look and cheered with excitement. Then, the Gladers tossed their torches into the bonfire, which was suddenly brought to life.

Everyone erupted in cheers as we gazed at the smoke from the fire billowing into the dark night sky. As I watched it, I suddenly spotted Newt on the other side of the bonfire where he had just thrown in a torch. I walked over to him, "Hey, Newt," I said, a large smile on my face.

He glanced at me smiling, "This party is really something, huh? It's been ages since we've had one like this."

I nodded, "Oh, yes." I said, then sighed, "I love it when we have nights like this."

Newt chuckled then his gaze caught onto someone else. I turned to look where he was looking and saw the Greenie and Chuck walking towards us.

I smiled and waved, "Hey Chuck, hey Green Bean." I called, as they reached us.

Chuck patted me on the back, "Nice to see you again, Y/N and Newt." he said, then looked at the Greenie. "Oh, yeah. Have you guys met before?"

The Greenie shrugged, "I've seen her before-"

"Great!" exclaimed Chuck, "So Greenie, this is Y/N."

I shook the Greenie's hand, "Nice to meet ya', Greenie."

He nodded, then Chuck gestured towards Newt, "And I'm guessing you've already met Newt?"

The Greenie nodded, "Yeah." he said, then asked, "Why is Y/N the only girl here?"

The three of us looked at each other and shrugged, "We honestly have no clue," said Newt. "She just came up from the box one day."

"Just, out of the blue?" asked the Greenie, we all nodded in reply. "Oh."

"Yeah, but it's great here!" I said cheerfully.

Chuck laughed, "It sure is!"

Newt took a sip of Gally's special recipe, "How do you like the Glade so far, Greenie." He asked casually.

"It's alright so far," he said.

Newt gave a brief nod, and then they continued their conversation on various topics. Then I turned to Chuck, who seemed to be having a great time.

I grinned, "We've had one heck of a day, haven't we?" I commented to Chuck as we moved over to sit down on a log newt to the fire.

He smiled and nodded, "Yeah, but that's everyday, Y/N."

I couldn't help but laugh, "You're right but it isn't everyday we have a rogue Greenie, now do we?" I said.

Chuck laughed too, "Yeah, that was a once in a lifetime event." he said, smiling.

I nodded then one of the other boys walked over and handed Chuck and I one of Gally's signature drinks. We smiled and thanked him, then we both took a swig of the drink. It didn't taste the best, but after drinking it for a while, I've been able to get used to it.

Chuck and I continued to casually talk as we watched the blaring fire. After a while of talking, the other Gladers created a fighting ring.

I was curious, "Hey, Chuck," I said, "You want to go and check out that fighting ring?" I asked.

He nodded with enthusiasm, "Yeah," he said. "I was about to ask you the same thing."

I smiled as we both stood up and headed over to the circle of boys. When we arrived, we saw Winston and Ben fighting in the center. They hadn't been fighting long, but Ben appeared somewhat tireder than he should've been, which Winston took advantage of.
