I glanced at the sun and realized it was time for the banishment, so I headed to the gate and saw Alby, Newt, and the other Keepers making their way over too. We all didn't want it to go like this but knew if we didn't, we'd put all our lives in danger.

I walked up behind Newt as he grabbed the pole he and the other Keepers were going to use to shove Ben into the Maze. I put my hand on his shoulder, knowing he didn't want to do this to Ben, or anyone. "Are you sure you're going to be alright?" I asked him.

He turned around, a forced grin on his face, "Yeah." he said, "It's just bloody hard to do."

I nodded, "I know. None of us wanted it to come down to this." I said, as we both walked over to where all of the other Keepers stood.

"Yeah, I just wish there was a better way to deal with this." he said, then walked away and in line with the other Keepers.

I stepped back and soon after, heard Ben being dragged by the Med-Jacks to where the Keepers and other Gladers stood waiting.

He was screaming and crying out as he tried to get free of the Med-Jack's grasp but it was no use. Then, the Med-Jacks shoved Ben in front of the Keepers and they kept him between them and the door. Not too long later, the doors to the Maze began to close and the Keepers started to slowly shoving Ben into the Maze.

Ben continued to scream and cry out as the Keepers began to push him into the opening between the closing doors. It soon became hard for me to watch so I turned my head around and to my surprise, I spotted Thomas and Chuck standing not too far away. Chuck's eyes locked onto mine and he shook his head and walked away, not able to bear watching or even hearing the banishment.

As Chuck walked away, I turned to look at Thomas who stared at Ben, his body was stiff as he watched. I felt bad that he had to watch this on his second day here but things just happened how they did.

The doors were almost completely closed and the Keepers shoved Ben a few last times until he was forced to go into the Maze seeing there was no other option. He began crying and continued screaming, which was suddenly cut off as the doors closed right in front of him.

None of us moved as we just stared at the doors which we knew Ben would never come out of again. It was hard on all of us; Ben was our friend, our brother, and we had just sent him out to a place he won't come back from again.

"He belongs to the Maze now," Alby said, breaking the short silence, then he walked away from the closed door.

Soon after, some of the Gladers began walking away in silence like Ably and others followed after them. Eventually, Newt began walking away, his face filled with too many emotions that I couldn't even read, yet I knew exactly how he was feeling.

As he walked past me, he couldn't even lift his head to look at me and just kept moving towards the Homestead with the other Gladers.

Although most left, I stayed for a while, just to digest everything that had just happened in a matter of a few minutes. But soon, I decided to leave since it was almost time for dinner.

As I walked to the Cookhouse, I saw other Gladers also making their way. Once I got close enough to it, I smelt what Fry had cooked up for the night, and it smelt delicious.

I was one of the first to get in line for food since it was a short line and once I got to Fry, I gave him a small smile. "Hey, Fry." I said.

He smiled back, "What's up, Y/N?" he said casually although I could tell he was thinking about Ben right before I spoke.

I shrugged, "Not much," I said, then Fry put food on my plate. "Thanks," I finished.

Fry nodded, "Enjoy the meal, it will get everyone's spirits up."

I grinned, Fry is always the one who tries to cheer everyone up.

I sat down at an empty table and began eating the potatoes first and as I put one in my mouth, I remembered how much I love them. As I continued eating, I suddenly heard someone sit down next to me. When I turned to look, I saw Newt.

"Hey," he said, looking at me with a slight smile across his face.

I put on a forced grin, "Hey, Newt."

I looked back down to my plate and continued eating. After a while of silence, Newt suddenly spoke, "How are you doing?" he asked, looking up at me.

I turned to look at him, "Fine," I said, "But I can't help but keep thinking about it."

Newt nodded sympathetically, "Yeah, first thing we've had to do like that."

I nodded, then we both kept eating and soon, more people came to sit at our table and to my surprise again, it was Chuck and Thomas. Chuck seemed to be doing better now that the whole banishing was done but on the other hand, Thomas looked as if he'd seen a ghost.

Newt greeted them and asked how they were doing.

Chuck was the only one to respond, "I'm doing alright."

I nodded and Newt added, "Good."

We all kept eating our food when Thomas suddenly spoke, "It's my fault, isn't it?" he asked, surprising all of us.

"What?" I said, shocked that he had just said that.

Newt shook his head, "It's not your fault, Tommy."

Thomas didn't want to listen to him, "No. He's dead because of me." he said, not looking up at any of us.

"You did nothing wrong, Thomas," I said, trying to reassure him. "The Changing just does that to people."

Chuck nodded as he put a hand on Thomas's shoulder, and Thomas sighed.

"Just don't think about it," said Newt. "You'll feel better within time."

Thomas said nothing then we all continued to eat.

It wasn't long until I finished eating and I got up, "I'm going to bed," I told them, "I'll see you all tomorrow."

They all nodded then I walked away silently in the direction of the Homestead, every event from today going through my mind.
