Beomgyu smiled softly, the tension easing from his face. "Okay. I believe you."

They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, sipping their coffees and watching the world pass by outside the café window. The unease between them seemed to dissipate, replaced by the quiet understanding that whatever challenges came their way, they would face them together.

But in the back of both their minds, the memory of Heeseung lingered—a shadow on the edge of their happiness, waiting to resurface when they least expected it.

The days following their conversation at the café seemed to settle back into a comfortable rhythm for Yeonjun and Beomgyu. They went to class, hung out with their friends, and enjoyed the quiet moments together. For the most part, things felt normal again.

But underneath the surface, Yeonjun couldn't quite shake the feeling that something was off. Every now and then, he'd catch himself looking over his shoulder, half-expecting to see Heeseung lurking in the shadows of their lives. He hated feeling this way—on edge, anxious, like a ghost from his past was haunting his present.

It was a Friday afternoon when that ghost finally made its presence known.

Yeonjun and Beomgyu were walking home from school, their hands brushing against each other as they strolled down the sidewalk. The sun was low in the sky, casting a golden glow over everything, and for a moment, Yeonjun allowed himself to relax, letting the warmth of the day soak into his skin.

But then, he spotted someone leaning against a lamppost up ahead. His heart skipped a beat when he recognized the figure.

Heeseung.

Beomgyu hadn't noticed him yet, chatting away about their plans for the weekend. But Yeonjun's steps slowed as they approached, his grip on Beomgyu's hand tightening ever so slightly.

"Yeonjun?" Beomgyu glanced at him, noticing the change in his pace. "What's wrong?"

Before Yeonjun could answer, Heeseung straightened up and began walking toward them. His eyes locked onto Yeonjun's, a small smile playing at the corner of his lips.

"Hey," Heeseung greeted them casually, as if this were a normal encounter between old friends. "Long time no see."

Beomgyu stiffened beside Yeonjun, his eyes narrowing slightly as he glanced between the two of them.

"What are you doing here, Heeseung?" Yeonjun asked, his voice carefully neutral.

Heeseung shrugged, his smile widening. "Just passing by. Thought I'd say hi."

Yeonjun's jaw clenched, but he forced himself to stay calm. "Well, you've said it. We're kind of in a hurry, so—"

"Wait," Heeseung interrupted, his gaze shifting to Beomgyu. "Can I talk to you for a second? Alone."

Beomgyu blinked in surprise, glancing at Yeonjun, then back at Heeseung. "Uh... I don't think that's necessary."

"It won't take long," Heeseung insisted, his voice soft but insistent. "Please."

Yeonjun's stomach churned at the thought of leaving them alone together, but he also didn't want to appear controlling or insecure. He trusted Beomgyu... but something about this felt wrong. Still, he nodded slowly, though his expression remained tense.

"I'll wait over there," Yeonjun muttered, nodding toward a nearby bench. "Don't be long."

Beomgyu gave him a reassuring smile before turning back to Heeseung. "Alright. What is it?"

As Yeonjun walked away, he could feel his heart pounding in his chest. He tried to focus on anything else—the sound of the wind in the trees, the distant hum of cars on the road—but his thoughts kept circling back to the conversation happening just a few feet away. He couldn't hear them clearly, but he could see the way Heeseung leaned in close to Beomgyu, his expression earnest, almost pleading.

Minutes ticked by, each one feeling like an eternity.

Finally, Beomgyu stepped away from Heeseung, his face unreadable as he walked back toward Yeonjun. Heeseung lingered for a moment, watching them, before turning and walking in the opposite direction.

Yeonjun stood up, his nerves on edge. "What did he say?"

Beomgyu sighed, running a hand through his hair. "He apologized. For everything. He said he didn't want to come between us, but... he still has feelings for you."

Yeonjun's stomach dropped. "What?"

Beomgyu shook his head quickly. "He knows it's over, Yeonjun. He said he just needed closure. That's all."

Yeonjun frowned, suspicion creeping into his mind. "And you believe him?"

Beomgyu hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah, I do. I think he's really trying to move on."

Yeonjun wanted to believe it too, but something about the encounter left him uneasy. Heeseung's sudden appearance, his insistence on talking to Beomgyu alone—it all felt too calculated. But he couldn't push his doubts onto Beomgyu, not when he was trying so hard to trust in their relationship.

"Okay," Yeonjun said softly, forcing a smile. "If you believe him, then I'll try to, too."

Beomgyu smiled back, leaning in to press a quick kiss to Yeonjun's cheek. "Thanks. Let's just forget about it, okay? We have more important things to focus on."

Yeonjun nodded, though the unease still gnawed at him. As they continued walking home, hand in hand, he couldn't shake the feeling that this wasn't the end of Heeseung's involvement in their lives.

It felt more like the beginning of something far more complicated.
