We arrived at the pack house just a short while after the incident between my parents. My mother, as hilarious as it was, was still very angry with me. Both my sister and I ignored our parents as we exited the car and made our way up to the pack house. Already, there were many cars and such parked out front. You could easily tell the ranking of each family based on what car they owned. The more common brands that associated with my family's own car meant that the pack member or family were what we were considered: the commoners. However, every now and then you would see a brand new, shiny car that would obviously represent a werewolf of higher status, such as a Gamma, Beta, or Alpha.

"Ugh! Do we really have to go in there Kay? I'd rather us run away and hide out in the forest," my sister groaned out, causing me to chuckle.

"That's exactly how I feel, Liz. But it'll be our butts if Mom and Dad find out about this. I think we might as well go in there and get it over with," I suggested, not wanting to add to my already long 'reasons that I should be grounded for life' list.

She sighed but nodded anyways, knocking on the large double doors. A butler opened the door, his other hand holding a glass of sparkling champagne. Of course, both my sister and I were much too young to drink anything alcoholic, but even then I would never touch the stuff.

"Good evening, and welcome to the Alliance Ball. Might you come in?"

We nodded and smiled at the older man, walking inside. My parents were dragging behind, so the butler ended up closing the door before they even made it near it. How amusing.

Liz looked around, a very irritated look upon her face. "There's nothing to do here! I hate dancing! I hate socializing! I hate dressing up! Just...just..."

"I know, Liz. I hate all of those as well. Let's just go over to a table and sit down. I'm just going to read on my phone until this event is over with," I admitted to her, walking over towards a table that was somewhat far away from where the main event was being held.

As I had thought, Liz immediately followed me, most likely approving of my solution to our anti-social problem. We both sat down, across from each other. She instantly put her earphones on and mouthed the lyrics to various songs that she was listening to. I pulled up my reading app and decided to choose a fantasy genre story for the time being. I read over the plot and a smile of satisfaction crossed my face as I knew I would enjoy this book.

It was about a girl who was only half human, her mother being tricked by her own husband, who was secretly an outcasted species. The girl eventually grew irritated with her mother and left her, using her teachings as a monster slayer to earn gold. Soon, she became the greatest slayer of all, attracting the attention of the Central Kingdom's prince, who fell in love with the girl from the moment he saw her.

It sounded like a book that would contain every aspect that I liked. I began to read the book, becoming lost in it's made-up fantasy world. I failed to notice how the pack house filled with more and more people, and I'm certain that my sister failed to realize as well. That is, until I felt as if someone was staring at our table. Picking my head up from my folded arms, I slowly scanned the area, making sure to not add anymore attention to that that is already there. To my shock, my eyes landed on two pair of eyes, one green and one a deep brown. I could have sworn that I had seen those eyes before...

Growing cautious of the two men, I quickly tapped the top of my sister's head. She glanced up at me in slight annoyance. I pointed towards my ears as a hint for her to take off her earphones. She did as told and sighed.

"What is it?" she asked, slightly irritated.

I pointed with my thumb behind me where the two men stood by the wall. "We're being stared at by two guys over there."
