~~•Forty two•~~

Start from the beginning

The way her father was struggling to cover up the things said a lot of things about this talk and now she was sure that it was definitely about her. What was Sultan trying to hide from her?

"I am not a child, Baba. I can hear when someone talks about me. And now everywhere I can hear people just discussing me. What kind of offer you were talking about?"  She almost lashed out, which changed the way her uncles looked at her.

"So you should be prepared for all of this rather than complaining and getting hyper like this. After everything which you did and what stain you put over your family's face and reputation, you should be happy that you were accepted back. Your long tongue and rebellious ways don't make any sense now. Sultan, you have spoiled her like this completely. And no doubt, that must be the reason why she went through all this," Zaya murmured, his tone harsh and unforgiving.

"Brother please---" Sultan pleaded.

Andaleeb glared at him. "That's not my mistake that I was kidnapped. Are you going to victim-shame me like this? And I have every right to know what's being decided about my life."

"Andaleeb, keep quiet and go back to your room," Sultan said, silently hoping that she wouldn't know about what he and his family conjured about one bit. According to him, the picture of that hopeless and helpless father who was devastated by what happened with his daughter was better than the scene of the horrible father that his brothers wanted him to become and which he needed to act like because of the cruel society.

Andaleeb walked over to her father and held his hands. "How can I keep quiet? Tell me which offer they were talking about. Why are you happy that Masab hasn't abandoned me?"

"If you are this curious, then just hear this. Because only this way you can know your true place. And by this, you can bring yourself to the earth from the high skies you are finding yourself even after what happened to you," her Aunt Shakila, who suddenly popped out of nowhere, came into the lounge. She never liked Andaleeb anyway, and now, after this tragedy, she likes to find any chance to diss and insult her.

"After getting dirty by that landlord, do you think that you can stand a chance to survive in a dignified way in this society? But your father and uncles are still gentle enough that they didn't shoot you straight when you first appeared at their door. You brought so much disgrace over our faces and yet you have the guts to shout and argue like this," the woman continued, spewing venom through her words.

"Bhabi, don't talk like that," Fariha complained, her eyes filling with tears.

"Yes, I will fight for my rights because I am innocent. I did nothing to feel ashamed of. I don't need your sympathy or consolation. But I didn't expect you all to blame me for what happened to me," she almost burst out, her eyes started burning with upcoming tears.

"Who knows that you did all of this as part of any game? You were equally involved in it. Who can deny that?" Zaya smirked, and her parents just stared at the things happening because they didn't know how to control it. The fact that they considered all this a hit to their prestige and now they couldn't fight for their precious daughter anymore because she really wasn't pure and unscathed anymore. Her reputation was put at stake and they lost the chance to say anything in her favor. They thought that nothing could undone now. And that had given so many words to so many mouths for them to speak whatever they wanted, splashing dirt at Andaleeb more than it already was.

"Enough now! Please stop this!" Sultan snarled, finally gathering the courage to raise his voice.

"Why though? Why it's enough? She should know what's the real deal. The real thing is that we haven't accepted you at all, Andaleeb." Ansar suddenly turned towards her. It seemed like everyone and anyone could shove daggers at them, ready to burn them altogether. And it was the mistake of not shutting their mouths at the exact and appropriate time, even if they were relatives. Sultan's timidity and cowardly acts had led to this day.

And then what Andaleeb didn't even expect in her wildest dreams was made to come to a reality by her Uncle through his words. She couldn't believe what she had heard and she suddenly felt she had lost her balance and she would fall down anytime.

"You were interested to know about that offer. Right? Then you should know it. That offer was from Alavi Shah and his son who wants us to join hands with him to lend him a support in his political career in this election in exchange for a very good advantage for Sultan's company. This way you can get your prestige back. We had no intention to tell you this but seeing you so high up in the air claiming like this, we had to make sure that you can know how to behave. Don't make things more difficult for your parents and yourself. Accept your fate and this marriage without making a scene," Her uncle's words acted as a tough whack over her heart, but they did bring so many realities for Andaleeb.
