"What's the problem with Hoor?" Her mother quickly added, making him pause.
Masab shook his head. "There's nothing wrong with Hoorain. But I can't marry her or anyone else in general because I have already married someone."
Everyone was stunned. They couldn't believe it. They thought that they misheard. How came Masab married anyone without telling them?
"What are you saying?" His father spoke for the first time this moment after remaining quiet all the while during the women's exciting talk.
"The truth. I married a woman I love. She is my wife now. And I can't marry anyone now, not Hoorain and not anybody else," he explained, without any guilt.
"What are you saying, Masab? How can you make such a big decision without telling anyone? Do we not carry any importance for you?" His mother completely lost it at this.
"What kind of things are you saying, Amma Sayen? You are all very dear to my heart," he tried to reason.
"If we would have been dear to our heart, you wouldn't have taken a big step of your life behind our back. You brought so much humiliation over us and you are asking us why we are disappointed? Do you even know the consequences of your actions? Your father has a grace and respect in this society and among his people. How can I face the public now?" His father was furious as well.
Masab gritted his brows. "I married someone. I didn't commit any sin. Yes, circumstances led me to secretly have nikkah with her, but that doesn't mean that my action will bring humiliation for you. I made that girl my wife with proper dignity and honor and I stand by it."
"Let's not make the things more sour than they are already are, kids." bi Jan tried to act as a peacemaker here before she turned towards Masab. "Who is that girl? Why and how did you marry her and didn't feel the need to tell us?"
"She is Andaleeb, daughter of a very prominent business personality Sultan Ahmad. One of my friends is a distant relative of the Sultan. On one trip abroad, I came across Andaleeb, who was here on her vacation, and there I saw Andaleeb, and I fell in love with her. I didn't know who she was but maybe it was my chance as it revealed that my friend knew her father. Hence, I decided to talk to the Sultan for his daughter's hand in marriage. But Sultan's only condition was to at least have nikkah with his daughter for some confidentiality and as a proof of my word. I can understand him because he wanted to make sure that I wouldn't ditch," he clarified everything in the best way he could possible.
His mother raised a brow. She still hadn't let go of her anger over this. Her likeness for Hoorain as a potential wife was another thing but how came Masab just married anyone like this? "Why does all of this have anything to do with you secreting planning a nikkah with her?"
"Andaleeb was promised to some other guy. But you know me. When I lay my eye on something, I need to get it. So I just needed Andaleeb at any cost. But Sultan was hesitating because, in a few months, Andaleeb's marriage was decided. So the only he could trust me was by getting his daughter nikkahfied with me," he asserted.
"I can't believe this, Masab. You just can't do that. No doubt the family can be prestigious but what will we say to everyone? And what about your Uncle? How can we pacify Hoorain and her parents?" His mother was confused.
To be honest, in this regard, he cared for the reaction of none other than his father. His mother and grandmother just wanted to see him getting married. He was already turning thirty, and they craved to see their only son settle into his life. Hoorain seemed a good option for them but they were never a diehard fan of this union. It only occurred to strengthen the bond between the brothers. If he had to be honest, his mother would be relieved by the idea that he wouldn't have to marry her husband's Brother's daughter. He knew his mother well. She just wanted to be in the good books of her mother-in-law and husband. In reality, she hated her brother-in-law's family. I was pretty sure she would be rejoiced by this idea. She liked Hoorain but she disliked her mother very much. So long story short, his mother would find this better in the long run.
