[Chapter 6: Concerns]

I tossed and turned in bed, unable to put myself to sleep. The events throughout the day were too much for me take in.

The ancient astronaut theory exists. Mr Rosen most probably had an encounter with an extraterrestrial who gave him answers about mankind. Worst of all, there is an alien agenda and Uncle Elias was reluctant to do anything about it!

After Uncle Elias left the library, I was outraged by his ignorance. That was not the Uncle Elias I knew. He was always looking for ways to bring about awareness amongst the community. I remembered his talks and speeches at the conventions that I used to follow him to. The Uncle Elias back there was a complete opposite of the Uncle Elias earlier that day.

I left the library without a word, leaving Axel behind. Uncle Elias must have had a chat with him after that. I could only imagine Uncle Elias persuading Axel to step aside and not meddle into this any further. It was extremely frustrating.

Fortunately, whilst deep in thought, my mind surrendered to exhaustion.

The beeping of my alarm clock made my eyes flutter open. I slapped my palm onto it, snoozing it for a moment. I stared up at my ceiling for a while, registering the situation. I was barely conscious, ready to slip back to sleep.

My mind was buzzing strangely. My thoughts wandered to the journal. The words 'Alien Agenda' were plastered in my mind. I was suddenly bubbling with agitation and adrenaline.

Something is coming, said my mind.

The beeping of my alarm clock shook me out of my reverie. I took a deep breath.

"You know what, forget it Laila. There is nothing you can do about it anyway," I said to myself.

I pushed my covers down and slowly crawled out of bed. I pushed my thin blue curtains aside letting a blaze of sunlight fill the room. I slowly walked to the bathroom and prepared for the world's greatest war, school.

I attended a private school in my town. Despite being the class topper, and the favourite student to all teachers, I did not like school as much as the next guy.

After a refreshing bath, I got changed. I put on my maroon blazer and tied my hair up into a ponytail. Scampering downstairs I decided to grab something to eat while I walked to school.

"Bye, Mom!" I cried out before leaving.

She responded by telling me to come home early. She reminded me that I had to pick my father up from the airport. I wondered if I should tell my father about the entire story.

To be honest, I was worried that he would react the same way Uncle Elias did. It would have seriously shattered my hope. My father was the only other person whom I could share my interests in history and space.

I slowed down my steps as soon as I neared the large school building. Cars were streaming in and out of the building. Clusters of students were casually walking into the school. The bright white walls of the contemporary building greeted me, making my mood sink even deeper.

I entered the building to be greeted by a crowd of students, mainly girls,  rushing past me towards the principal's office. I got hit a few good times trying to get myself past the crowd.

"What the heck? Class starts in an hour, what's the rush? Wait, why are they all heading to the principal's office?" I said as I neared my locker. A petite Asian girl was standing next to it smiling brightly.

I received a reply from my dearest friend Lin,"Because of the new kid. Duh!" She said, as if it was the most obvious subject in the world.

"What?" I asked, oblivious.

"The new transfer student. It a boy and lots of them say he's smoking hot!" She said squealing.

"Well then we should get a fire extinguisher before the school catches on fire," I said sarcastically.

Lin Nakamori could be defined as the polar opposite of me. She was outspoken, full of sunshine and clearly a social butterfly, unlike me who preferred to get absorbed into books and my own crazy ideas about the world.

I had to admit, if it were not for Lin, I would have lost touch in social life. Nevertheless, even though we were polar opposites, we were inseparable. I knew everything about her and she knew everything about me.

Lin insisted that I check the new guy out, so I followed her to the crowd of students that were gathered a few doors away from the principal's office. I pushed through the mass of people but unfortunately got stuck a few feet away. Therefore, I just tip-toed to see who was the centre of attention.

To my surprise, it was Axel. He appeared to have just exited the principal's office, our homeroom teacher trailed behind him. He was looking dashing in our school uniform, I could tell why the girls were overreacting.

Then it hit me, he just moved in, he would obviously be schooling around here. Judging from our homeroom teacher who was ushering him, he must be in my class. The coincedence never ceased to amaze me.

I decided to let it slide. Without looking back, I started off to class, indulging in my thoughts, and...concerns.
