Blue could feel his breathing getting heavier, his vision blocking everything else out except for those cold, evil eyes.
No...this couldn't be.
He couldn't let Red touch him.
Without warning, Blue launched straight towards Red, trying to move past the other Rainbow Friends, who had been standing silently the entire time.
He wanted to rip Red's face off, he wanted to maul Red and then give his ugly eyeballs to Green.
He wanted to be free.
But before he even got halfway there, Green reached out with his long arms and wrapped them around his waist. Blue yowled in rage as he tried to pry Green off without hurting his friend, but it was no use.
Green's grip was too tight.
Red chuckled again, obviously enjoying his attempts to fight back.
Purple also tried to move from where he stood, causing Yellow to pick him up by his hoodie, hanging him above the ground like a small animal.
The two were stuck. Blue could feel his heartbeat getting louder as he saw Red raise the dart, aiming straight at him.
He was about to lose himself forever.
As Blue realized this, he stopped struggling and instead glanced back at Green.
He smiled at him, even though tears were now falling down his face.
"This isn't your fault Green. I'm...I'm just sorry that I could never make you happy..." He whispered, just as Red raised his arm.
The world seemed to slow down as Red finally threw the dart, straight for Blue.
Blue squeezed his eye shut, letting out one last strangled cry as he knew that he would never witness freedom, unlike his friends.
And then...he heard a thump. Blue stayed frozen for a moment, before his breath finally slowed down.
He hadn't been hit yet.
He was safe.
Blue opened his one eye and still saw Green holding him, and smiled with relief as he realized that it wasn't too late. They could still be together, once Orange and Elise saved them all.
And then he turned around to look at Red.
And his heart dropped to the floor in a horrifying realization.
Blue couldn't even believe the sight in front of him.
Slumped on the floor, halfway between him and Red...
Was none other than Purple.
Purple was clutching his chest, the dart sticking out as he cried in pain.
The entire world stopped at that moment as Blue finally mustered up the strength to shove Green off of him.
"PURPLE!!!"
He could hear a desperate and broken scream, but he didn't know where it came from. Maybe it was his own mouth, maybe it was someone else. He didn't care.
He rushed over frantically, barely able to see through the tears that were gathering in his eyes.
He stopped over Purple and quickly kneeled down, grasping the dart in between his two hands and ripping it out.
However, it was too late, as Blue was met with the sight of an empty dart. He sobbed out loud as he threw it to the side, and instead scrambled to hold Purple's head. He didn't have his hoodie on, he must have slipped out of it to escape Yellow.
Purple was staring up at him, his pupils dilated in shock. However, Purple still managed to speak to him.
"Blue...I don't wanna be alone forever..." He whimpered, faint tears glistening.
Blue was taken back to the day in which he had reassured Purple that he wouldn't have to spend the rest of his days alone. He knew then that he had failed as a friend.
And Purple...purple had just saved him.
"No...no..you won't be alone...I...I'll stay with you.." Blue whispered, his voice cracking.
Purple reached up and gripped Blue's hand in his own.
"I...I'm glad you're okay." Purple said quietly, "You...you can help Orange save us."
But as Blue cried, he noticed that Purple wouldn't have much longer. He reached down and pulled Purple up in one last hug, feeling tears of pure loss run down his face as he felt Purple squeeze him back.
"Please Purple...don't...don't go. You need to come make new friends with us, remember?" Blue pleaded, hoping that Purple would fight it.
But Purple shook his head slowly and tiredly.
"Blue...I...I don't think I was meant to have friends..." Purple whispered, and then went limp in his arms.
Blue sat there, still sobbing, praying that Purple would be okay, that he would wake up normally.
But he just...didn't.
Blue slowly looked up at Red in pure shock, unable to believe that even Red would do that to Purple, the sweetest and most wholesome of the Rainbow Friends.
For once in his life, Red looked taken off guard. He was standing there, staring at Purple, with his eyes wide and had not said a word.
As Red saw Blue looking at him, he turned around quickly. Blue could've sworn he saw a tear roll down his face.
Red glanced down at a device in his hand, and his head snapped up quickly. He suddenly growled deeply as he quickly pulled out his last dart and looked at Blue.
Blue stood up in fear as he realized that Red had made two doses.
And then suddenly...
"You're lucky he saved you. Unfortunately I have to use the last one on our good friend Orange."
And with that, Red rushed out of the room, and Blue was left alone with the other Rainbow Friends, now all enemies, beaten and sobbing.
As he knew that Purple had made the ultimate sacrifice, but had saved him in the process.
For that Blue could never repay him.
