Hoorain was a nice, respectful, civil yet a bit clingy girl. It was maybe shoved into her mind for a while that they would be the endgame as their relationship was committed by the elders. The sharp blush and shyness that came across her figure annoyed Masab. She started spending more time in their mansion, offering him tea and meals every other time. She was good, and he wouldn't have any issue with her behavior, either, unless he wouldn't have Andaleeb in his heart and mind. Now even the presence of any other woman in his life frustrated him.
As he expected, his mother gave Hoorain's name as her potential daughter-in-law. He never said yes to her in the past, but they already assumed everything on their own. And not to forget, in their circle, arranged marriages were a thing. Seldom could one voice out their likes or dislikes. And he knew that if he would object, it would bring controversy. His parents had already talked about this relationship with Hoorain's parents. The only option was confiding in Hoorain for this and his changed feelings. Telling her that he would never be able to give her what she wanted.
On a beautiful evening in September, Hoorain was again in their mansion. She used to put extra preparation into her dressing and makeover since he was here. As expected, she brought tea for him when he was sitting in the garden with a tablet in his hand, skimming through the recent development of his new project. Masab wanted to avail this chance to talk to her, and today was the best option.
After a while, Hoorain was there dragging a trolley with her, the sound of her bangles and Payal making a melody. She smiled, looking at his handsome face, and started making tea.
"I heard from Chachi Jan that you like the tea made by me, Shah Sahab. Is that so?" She murmured, offering him his cup of tea.
Masab raised a brow but then nodded. "Of course. You are a good cook, I assume."
She grinned. "I am trying to learn about your likes and dislikes about food and everything else. I want to become a good wife."
He gave her a strange look before putting the cup back on the table. He waited for Hoorain to occupy her seat in front of him.
"Look Hoorain, we are cousins, and you seem very intelligent and smart to me, who will understand whatever I will say with a cool mind," he started, putting thoughts into words carefully.
Hoorain, who was sipping her tea, paused and gritted her eyebrows in shock. "What do you mean?"
Masab blinked. "Hoorain, I am in love with someone else, and I will marry her."
Her jaw dropped, and she remained quiet for a long time before wetness occupied the corners of her eyes. "What are you saying? We are about to get engaged."
"My will is not included in it, Hoorain. It's happening against my will. I never told anyone that I wanted to marry you. Why I am telling you this first without telling my parents is that I know they won't allow me to leave you. They will let me marry the woman I love, but they will say you have to marry Hoorain as well. This will be an injustice to you. My heart only belongs to that girl, and I won't be able to give you anything. That's why I am telling you this::: if you are looking for any love from me, I am sorry I can't provide you with wit with that. Marrying me will only give you companionship, a husband, and nothing else. You are a good girl, and you deserve someone who loves you. That's why I want you to say no to me to your parents. If I said no, it would seem like disrespect to you, and my parents would force me to marry you to save your dignity," he explained matter-of-factly.
Hoorain sniffed her nose to swallow back the tears. "Who is that girl?"
Masab pressed his lips together. "Someone you don't know."
"Must be some rich fair-skinned American girl who wears short clothes?" Hoorain murmured, making a fist of her fingers.
That was true; she liked Masab since they were young. She was always told that she would get married to him. Whatever he said was right too. If he would say no, his parents would have forced him to marry her. But now, suddenly realizing that he loved someone else made her furious. What she didn't have but that girl did?
He shook his head simply. "She is Pakistani."
"What does she have that I don't have?" She snapped hard.
Masab shot her a dubious look. "It's all about the heart, Hoorain. My heart belongs to her. You are no doubt a very nice girl. But I don't want to marry you because it will be disloyalty to the woman I love."
"You also did disloyalty to me by falling in love with her, Shah Sahab," she yelled, standing back with a jerk.
Masab clenched his jaw. "We were never committed, Hoorain. The only reason I tell you this before anyone else is because I don't want to keep you in darkness. You wouldn't feel disrespect when you hear it from anyone's mouth. I will only marry her. I can't ruin your life, Hoorain. You deserve a person who loves you, and I wish you the best."
He left after that, leaving Hoorain mad at him and calling him from behind, but he didn't stop. If his parents wouldn't agree, he would do anything to marry Andaleeb in any way. They would never be able to force him if he would marry her instead. The presence of the daughter-in-law would change their minds, but first, he needed her in front of him.
His heart yearned for Andaleeb at a different intensity, and the only thing he knew was the fact that he wanted to possess her. Either she shouldn't have appeared in front of him and actually helped him, or now she had to bear the consequences. He would conquer her at any cost. Nature put her in this situation, and he wasn't a person who would make situation-driven reactions. He would let things work his way. And Masab knew that if not by the straight way, he would use any twisted thing to make her his.
Once back in Pakistan, he did everything to make her his. He saved her from every bad thing, he put full-on protection for her, and he helped her whenever she needed. Andaleeb didn't even know that it was him. But he didn't care for now. He would make a way into her life. Showing up in his perfectly sculpted and robotic life was her fault; if not hers, then it was fate's. His heart had locked her heart, and her whole being was claimed by him. Whatever it was, Andaleeb was his to be called now. Making her a part of his life was risky, but he would do that at any cost.
But all of a sudden, his happiness shattered when he dwelled on the reality that she was already engaged. How could he make her his by this way? He was already thinking about making a move by sending his parents with his proposal to her house, and now everything was in vain. How would he manage it?
Fair and honest. That was Masab's self-made motto once he joined the work of an undercover spy, and he worked like this throughout his life. But how could he show deceit in the first actual thing in his life?
Was living a loveless life his fate forever against all odds? His heart was moved by someone, but he couldn't get her. He would have to think of it this way and make peace with it unless another thing wouldn't have dawned on him.
By secretly messaging her and digging from her quite a few friends, he got to know that she wasn't happy with her fiance. That just substantiated his happiness and urge to get her. This was just an arranged marriage for her. Things were easier now. She wasn't in love with her fiance. She was just marrying for her parents' sake. Fate was in favor of his love.
However, Masab didn't know that even if fate wanted to bestow him, it wouldn't be as easy or straight as he thought. It was twisted because being part of another mission, he got the most wanted wish in his life.
