“Chotti bibi, I have brought mint tea for you. Please take it, ” she announced in a professional tone.

That was the first time when the girl gazed up. She smiled looking at the old servant and put her book aside while crossing her both legs. This revealed her dress which was a nightgown made up of pure purple silk.

“Asiya Bua, thank you. Please put this here," she ordered while gesturing towards the small bedside table, just beside her.

The servant abided by whatever she was given and turned around to go out when the girl remembered something and stopped her.

“Asiya Bua, have mama and Baba Saen went to sleep?” She asked.

“I don’t know Chotti Bibi, they have left for their room right after the dinner, ” she replied.

“Oh, it’s okay. You may leave now. It’s already so late, you should sleep too, ” she mumbled while again lifting up her book and placing it on her lap.

Asiya smiled genuinely at this. The girl right in front of her never took her as a servant. She always respected and regarded her as an elder of her house more. But that certainly wasn’t the case with her parents. They were rigid in their beliefs and behavior both. It was been her second year working in this household and Sometimes Asiya used to wonder from where she got that sweetness in her attitude when her parents didn’t have a tinge of it. They were rude and self-centered to the core.

“Do you want to say anything else, boa?” The girl asked as she grabbed the cup of mint tea and looked at her with narrow eyes.

“No, there is nothing. I'll leave then, ” Asiya suddenly felt guilty for thinking bad for her parents. She nervously left the room while cursing herself for her thoughts earlier.

AssalamoAlaikum Baba Saen, Mama, ” she enunciated while gazing at both her parents as she reached the dining table.

“Walikum Assalam, my daughter is here, ” her father, a man in probably his fifties, looking fresh yet stern from his face replied with adore.

He was in a neat white impeccably ironed suit with a brown cloth hanging along his shoulder. A same colored fabric was tied along his head giving his overall personality a rough appearance. On the other hand, his wife looked much younger than him. The bright pink expensive dress with small glass work on it and a pink shawl delicately covering her head was making her look like a decent lady.

“Baba Saen, today is my first day at college,”, she chimed while nibbling on her breakfast.

“Oh, is that so? May Allah bless you, ” her father said while lovingly patting her head.

“Baba Saen, can I ask you something?” She questioned but the nervousness in her behavior was evident from biting her lower lip.

“Not one, ask hundred, ” he chuckled in the response.

“Baba Saen, ” she paused and scratched her nose before looking back at him, “you guys know my friend Sehar, right? Who used to study in school with me.”

Both her parents nodded but they were confused as to what their daughter was going to say which was making her so anxious.

“As our school has ended, a few of my school friends have made a plan to go visit northern areas. Can I go along with them? It will be just a three-day trip, ” she explained but the changing expressions of her father's face made her to tremble.

“Hoor, beta you know my answer well then why do you always ask these types of favors?” Tassaduq Nazeer Malik said in a stern voice.

“Baba Saen, it will be just girls and Sehar is also coming ---”

“No means no, Hoorain!”Tassaduq Malik interrupted her and harshly struck the fork on the table, which not only made Hoorain to shudder but his wife also had the same expression.

That was the problem. Her father might be doting and loving in every other circumstance except the matters that involved his family beliefs and going out of girls was also one of it. He even agreed to the further studies of Hoorain too even after so much effort. But after knowing that Hoorain was so fond of studies and the college was just for girls, somehow he softened and said yes.

“But baba---”

“Hoorain, just stop already. Don’t argue with your Baba. When he said you can’t go, so you can’t! Now finish your breakfast quickly and go to your college or else you would be late on your first day, ” her mother, Samia reprimanded her at which she sulked like a baby.

“Make her understand, Samia, ” Tassaduq mumbled while getting up and patting her hair, “I will tell the driver to drop her off at the college, ”after saying this, he walked away.

Haya could feel wetness in her eyes. Every time it used to end like this. Her father never cared for her happiness and every time, she was naïve enough to ask for favors from him.
