Gon rolled over to check the time.
9 AM on a school day.
He let out a deep sigh and opened his bedroom door to be greeted by a red faced Killua.
He looked adorable.
"What do you want shorty?" his voice was deep with sleep, he reached up to rub the crust from his eyes.
"You've been acting like a dick. Again. And you missed first and second period. What's going on with you?"
"How did you even get in my house?"
"Your dad." He muttered as he brushed past Gon and walked into his room.
Gon fought a groan, turning around and watching Killua make himself comfortable on his bed as he waited patiently for an answer.
"I.. I don't know what you want me to say." He admits softly as he shut his door and leaned against it.
"You can start by telling me what's going on with you." Blue eyes felt dangerous as they stared through his soul.
Admitting his two favorite people were gone felt like he was accepting it. Verbalizing it was scary. Gon could barely process their death when he was first told. He was in complete denial. He knows they're never coming back now. He knows they're long gone. So why does saying it out loud feel like his heart is breaking all over again?
Cold hands snake around his waist as a body softly collides with his own.
"You've made the choice to do better, you've been getting better. Why lose your progress?" Killua whisper into his chest.
His shoulders began to shake as a sob wracked through his frame. His arms wrapped around Killua tightly as he cried into his hair.
Killua only rubbed his back, whispering words of comfort and support.
What the hell was he even doing with himself?
He doesn't know how long he spent crying, or when they moved to his bed. Right now, he's lying on Killua's chest as the last of his tears flow out of his eyes. A hand running through his hair gently as quiet words of encouragement are spoken.
"Are you ready now?" Gon looked up at Killua, he was sure the sight was ugly.
He was always an ugly crier, no matter how many times his Aunt Mito told him it wasn't important how he looked. How he should care more about what's making him feel this way instead of how he looks. He's never been able to do that though. He's sure his face is a deep red, eyes matching that color scheme perfectly with a runny nose. The dark red never mixed well with his tanned skin.
Killua's unoccupied hand came to cup his face. Thumb rubbing at any tears that dare slip.
"I keep hurting you. I'm sorry."
"Yeah.. You do. I won't always forgive you or try to break your door down. So please. Talk to me next time before you brush me off, okay?"
He could only nod. The barbed wire still had a tight grip on his neck. He wanted to claw at it.
He put his head back down, listening to his steady heartbeat.
Hands were back in his hair.
His throat felt less closed off.
"It was a car accident." He spoke as loud as his body would let him. Which wasn't very loud at all.
Killua tightened his grip on Gon.
"It was raining. Well raining is an understatement. It was storming, awful. Could barely see anything ahead of us ." He let out a bitter laugh. "I had begged to be out that day though. My grandma mentioned a storm would happen later in the day. So we all thought we'd have time."
"I just wanted to go down to the lake. We'd go fishing all the time." He smiled softly. "We got in the car, the forecast said it'd be light rains and heavy storms around night fall. I really didn't know it could get that bad."
"We were like, 20 minutes away from the lake when the winds picked up. The roads were so slick and Aunt Mito was trying so hard to get us there. But she realized it'd be futile so she turned around. She apologized to me."
Gon rolled onto his back. Taking Killua's hand in his own as he looked him in his eyes.
"She lost control of the vehicle. Hydroplaned. Crashed right into a brick wall. Aunt Mito passed away in the hospital, Grandma Abe on the spot. I walked off with some broken ribs and a head injury." Killua had silent tears falling from his eyes.
"I'm sorry that happened Gon."
He could only shrug in response as he pulled Killua back into a hug.
"Me too."
Killua can't recall how many times he's fallen asleep in Gon's bed. It's becoming a bad habit.
But now he's learned to silence his phone so his mother's phone calls won't wake him.
What he didn't count for, was Gon's father waking them.
They both woke up to the door swinging open and a light being turned on.
Killua pushed his face into Gon's flattened hair to shield his eyes as a groan erupted from the other.
"Are you coming with me to the gravesite or not?" Ging's voice was rough and his eyes were red.
Gon looked at his father, red eyes to match the frown thats present on both their faces.
Gon mentioned he had his Aunts smile, but he definitely favors his father.
"Yeah, let me get ready." His father nodded as he stepped back out.
"You don't have to come if you don't want too. I can have him drop you off at home." Killua pushed himself off the bed as he shook his head.
"If my mom sees me before schools out she's gonna rip me a new one."
"Do you want to come with us?" Gon asked sitting up and swinging his legs over the bed. Hands reaching up into his hair.
"If you're okay with me going, I'd love to meet them both." Gon smiled softly, he took ahold of Killua's hands and pulled him between his legs.
Killua's hands coming to rest on his shoulders.
"Thank you for coming today." Hands rubbed at Killua's sides as Gon rested his forehead against his torso.
"I came to yell at you." Killua joked.
"I still deserve it."
"You do."
