What is Laylatul Qadr?

Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) mentions that Laylatul Qadr is the most blessed night of the year. There is no other night about which Allah has revealed a whole surah that we call the Surah of Qadr. In every single verse in this surah Allah emphasises Laylatul Qadr.

SURAH AL-QADR
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
1. Innaa anzalnaahu fee lailatil qadr
2. Wa maa adraaka ma lailatul qadr
3. Lailatul qadri khairum min alfee shahr
4. Tanaz zalul malaa-ikatu war roohu feeha bi izni-rab bihim min kulli amr
5. Salaamun hiya hattaa mat la’il fajr

Abdullah Yusuf Ali Translation
1. Verily! We have sent it (this Qur’an) down in the night of Al-Qadr (Decree)
2. And what will make you know what the night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is?
3. The night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allah in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, i.e. 83 years and 4 months).
4. Therein descend the angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] by Allah’s Permission with all Decrees,
5. Peace! (All that night, there is Peace and Goodness from Allah to His believing slaves) until the appearance of dawn.

If you worship Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) for this one night, you will get the ajr of worshipping Allah for 83.33 years, that is more than multiple lifetimes than any one of us can ever have.
On this night we should be found praying and prostrating and pleaing to Allah and begging because those who pray to Allah on Laylatul Qadr, their chances of a better qadr are increased.
We have been told to find the night of power in the last ten nights of Ramaḍan especially in the odd nights the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and the 29th.
On this very blessed and powerful night the angels are everywhere so when you make du’a the angels will say ‘Ameen’. They will pray for you when you pray to Allah.
Our beloved Prophet (ṣallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) used to strive hard in worship during the last ten days of Ramadan as he never did any other time, praying, reciting the Qur’an and making du’a.

Aisha (radhiallahu-anha) reported: With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet used to tighten his waist belt (i.e. work harder) and used to pray the whole night, and used to keep his family awake for the prayers. (Bukhari)

Abu Hurayrah (Radi Allahu anhu) relates that the Prophet (ṣallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever stands (in the voluntary night prayer of) Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven. And whoever spends the night of Laylatul Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Sunan an-Nasa’i)

One of the best du’aa’s that should be recited on Laylatul Qadr is the one taught to Aisha (radiallahu anha) by the Prophet (ṣallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) :
Aisha (radhiallahu-anha) reported:
I asked: “O Messenger of Allah! If I realise Laylatul Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?” He (ṣallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) replied, “You should supplicate:

Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni
(O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me).”
(At-Tirmidhi).

Whoever misses out on the Night of Power will have lost something irreplaceable, may Allah make us from those who spend this night in worship ameen.

Please keep me in your dua’s.
