"Where were you?" Daneen was at her as soon as she entered.
Andaleeb sighed as she put the handbags on the floor. That jerk at least let her to have her phone and the shopping which led her to this.
"I told you this over the phone, Dani that my battery died, and when I charged it a bit in the bookstore, I called you immediately. I couldn't even realize about how time passed," she replied, feeling dejected to lie like this but perhaps that was nothing in front of the lie that she was going to pull on her marriage.
Daneen touched her shoulder. "You made me so worried. Don't go out alone like this. You were even sick as well. How are you?"
She nodded. "I am fine now."
"Go and get freshened up. I am going to order dinner. Because of your concern, even I couldn't eat anything," Daneen murmured, truthfully.
She recalled that she had already eaten with that man because he insisted on having her company while eating. However, she couldn't say to Daneen that she wasn't hungry. It would open up her Pandora box of questions again. It would be better if this topic would end now.
The food they ordered arrived in their room after a while. Even the sight of it made her feel full but to show her sister, she took a few bites.
"How was your date?" She inquired, putting a piece of delicious lasagna in her mouth.
Daneen blushed. "Don't call it a date, Andi. We just met."
Andaleeb sighed. "Okay. Lemme rephrase it. How was your meeting with my Aunt's son?"
Daneen slightly hit her forehead. "You are too much. It was just fine. We went over to the Brooklyn Bridge to see snowfall and then we ate lunch in a restaurant. Just this."
She grinned wickedly. "Such a romantic time you spent with him."
When Andaleeb recalled what she did that evening, it made her roll her eyes. When her sister had a romantic date with her fiance, she was stuck with an unknown blackmailer.
This time Daneen didn't say anything but just smiled. She wished for her sister's happiness to last long.
As now they laid down on their respective sides of the bed, she stared at the ceiling as the sleep was out of her eyes. She got saved by Daneen by inches today. Her sister became worried about her absence for a few hours so much. What would happen when she would leave for forever to marry Aurang? That incident made her think about the future. In front of love, she never paid heed to these things. But what could she do? A life without Aurang was baseless and pointless. Once he would become her husband, she would try her best to appease her family. They loved her and they would surely forgive her in the end.
Andaleeb twisted her nails with one another when something flashed in her mind. Would that guy give her things back to her or not? And even if he would, how he would manage it? What if he was a stalker, a blackmailer, and criminal who tricked girls into doing what he wanted by this? She had her personal information with him. Her ID card, passport, credit card, and other minor things. What would happen if he would use it for some corruption? She should really see whether he was still in his room or not. Or possibly try to take her things back right now.
She sat up and looked at her sister. Daneen was sleeping soundly. She took a deep breath to decide before she got off the bed to act upon it. Andaleeb grabbed her overcoat from the ensuite and put it over herself. The sweet warmth it gave her was awesome and made her feel protected. She went into the kitchenette and hid a knife in her pocket in case something happened and she needed self-defense for herself.
Laying a quick glance at Daneen, she left the room and silently closed the door behind her. A cold wind hit her quickly. The restaurant staff had given the spare keys to Shah's room to her as she was the one who booked it. Ironically neither did she give it to him nor did he ask for it. His room was at the far corner of the corridor. She took quiet steps towards it. It was locked from the inside. She inserted the key and then unlocked it. The door opened with a hushing sound. There was darkness in there except for the faint light which moonlight was pouring through the window. In this light, she could make out a silhouette of a human body on the bed. But she wanted to make sure that it wasn't some trick.
