"Alright."
"Alright what?"
"Nothing."
"Then why'd you say it?"
"It doesn't matter. I wasn't even talking to you."
"Then who were you talking to?"
"I don't know! No one! Myself, or God or the endless Abyss! It doesn't matter. It doesn't concern you anyway, because I wasn't talking to you!"
"How do you not know who you're talking to? There must be a direction for the words to go towards when you say them, right?"
"Seriously, why are you still talking to me? I just said one word to no one and you're trying to make a big problem out of it. It's not that deep! Just accept that and move on!"
"I'm just trying to understand you."
"What are you, an alien? What's there to understand that you don't already?"
"I just don't understand why you would say things that don't matter, while talking to no one."
"How do you not understand that? Do you never talk to yourself?"
"No, I do."
"Then you should understand it, right?"
"But that's not the same! When I talk to myself, I'm talking to someone, because I'm someone, and I know who I'm talking to, because I'm talking to me, and I never say things to myself that don't matter, because why would I say something that doesn't matter?"
"Really? You never say things that don't matter? That must be the biggest lie I've ever heard."
"It's not a lie!"
"I can bet you that you've said things that don't matter. For example, this whole conversation doesn't matter."
"Yes, it does."
"No, it doesn't. We're having a whole conversation just because I said 'alright'. Why would that matter?"
"Everything we say matters. Even if the subject of the conversation isn't important, doesn't mean it doesn't matter. Even non-important things matter."
"Yeah, sure, if you say so. But in the grand scheme of things, this conversation doesn't matter. There are far more important things in the world that we could be discussing right now, and instead we're talking about what we're talking about. That doesn't sound like it matters."
"In the grand scheme of things, nothing matters. The universe is bigger than we as humans will ever be able to comprehend, and we're just the tiniest specks of dust on that scale. To the universe, we live short and unimportant lives. Nothing you or me could ever do or say could ever be important enough to change the universe. But that doesn't mean we don't matter. Because we do. Everyone's lives are important, and everyone's actions and thoughts matter, because either we all matter, or none of us do."
"I didn't mean on the scale of the universe. More like, on the scale of the earth. If we look at the entire earth right now, there are for more important conversations to be had."
"Yes, you're right. But if we weren't having this conversation, we wouldn't be having a conversation at all. We would both just be staring at the floor, or the wall, or something else. Now we're talking. Doesn't talking matter more than doing nothing?"
"I guess you're right."
"Alright."
