Sweeeeeet Ca-ro-lineeeee!! Dhup dhup Dhup
The melody played in my mind as I tried to steady my racing heart. I was going crazy, my stomach a fluttering mess of butterflies that made me feel almost nauseous. How could a boy be so sweet?
Jake had given me flowers and held my hand while guiding me to our seats. And, a major turn-on: he got us food! Being the glutton that I am, the only way to my heart is through my stomach. If you bring me food, bingo-you've got yourself the most loyal human companion.
Typically, I avoid eating out with casual acquaintances because of the comments and judgments I get about my eating habits. But Jake was different.
He didn't bat an eye when I finished the popcorn alone. Instead, he cheerfully went to get a refill without a single complaint and even brought back a brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The gesture was so thoughtful it almost made me tear up.
After the movie, we headed to a local burger joint. I braced myself for the usual comments, but Jake remained silent about my eating habits, never once making me feel self-conscious.
"I knew you'd like this place," he said with a smile, sipping on his milkshake. His confidence and easy demeanor put me at ease.
Curiosity was gnawing at me, and I decided to take the plunge. "So, is there any particular reason you asked me out?" I asked, trying to sound casual but feeling anything but.
Curiosity kills the cat, but I had to know. I couldn't just accept that someone was genuinely attracted to me and had taken the initiative to ask me out.
He looked at me, seeming surprised by the question. "I mean, you're gorgeous. Isn't it pretty common to ask a beautiful girl out? I've liked you for a very long time; it just took a lot of guts to finally ask you out," he said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
Wait... he finds me beautiful? WTF!!
Everything that happened after that was a blur. My mind was still processing his words.
Gorgeous.. He called me gorgeous.
I couldn't wrap my head around it. It felt surreal, like a dream I was about to wake up from.
Jake dropped me off at home in his car. Ever the gentleman, he opened the door for me and walked me to my front door.
"Well, see you tomorrow," he said, giving me a warm hug before leaving. I stood there, heart pounding, a smile plastered on my face. I'm the kind of girl who doesn't kiss on the first date-not that I've been on many dates-but his respectful approach was endearing.
As I watched him drive away, I felt a mix of emotions-excitement, disbelief, and an overwhelming sense of happiness. Jake had shown me a side of dating I didn't know existed, one where I felt valued and beautiful just the way I am.
And for the first time in a long time, I looked forward to what tomorrow would bring.
