Chapter 11
Mary:
Sam was gone when I woke up the next morning and by gone I don't mean she was in the wardrobe or toilet or just downstairs, I checked. I also knew she hadn't left for good, because her Tara and Claire were still here. With her being gone so early this morning, I didn't get to talk to her about what happened last night. I mean by the time David and I had sorted out everyone’s problems it was almost three in the morning and half the arguments I didn't even understand, like what Jackson didn't tell his mother, all I know is it must be about the person who is no longer in her bed.
I sighed, knowing I needed to find her. I walked out of our room in search of Sophie and Sarah, who made up first and then went to bed pretty quickly after that, if you know what I mean. "Hey have you seen Sam?" I asked getting a little worried; they both shook their heads looking sad. I frowned at the lack of knowledge, were the hell could she have gone? I nodded at Sophie and Sarah and carried on down the stairs to find Rob, Emily, and Jackson, which had spent the night in the spare rooms. David and Lucas were talking in hushed tones by the table in the kitchen while Mum was out of earshot humming at the stove.
I opted to ask Mum first, knowing she would be a safer choice no matter who you were. So not listening to the guys' conversation I walked over to my humming mother. I was starting to wonder if it had been a good idea that Sam and I came here. Seems since we arrived people have been arguing, Sam has been riddled with headaches and fainting spells. Her attitude has jumped like never before, and now she shakes when she is angry, things just didn’t make sense. Maybe Sam and I should leave, maybe we are the problem. I would talk to Sam when I found her.
"Mum" I said trying to get her attention. She was bouncing around with a set of headphones in. I smiled at this, she was such a kid. I pulled out one of the ear buds making mum jump.
"What Sam?" said Mum turning round to face me "Oh sorry Mary it's you, what did you need love?" I swallowed hard knowing I had to just say it. My stomach was dropping by the second, I could feel the panic for the situation and for my sister rising. I had to find her.
"Have you seen Sam?" I asked slowly, Mum frowned at me and shook her head, seeming confused as to why I used that tone, the soft and scared tone.
"No why where is she?" she asked worried now by the look on my face as she said no, it just dropped. I shook my head
"I think.. I think she's gone" I whispered, forcing myself not to cry.
"Gone?" asked Jackson from the table looking confused
"Yeah her duffel bag is gone but not her school bag, I can't find her" I said to a silent room. Rob looked thoughtful, David looked like he was remembering something, Jackson looked a mix between angry and worried and Lucas, well he looked about ready to throttle our sister.
David started tapping his fingers on the table, apparently his thoughts were getting to him and he needed an out source for the energy. Finally when he did speak he didn't say what I thought he would have said."You lot go to school, I'll get some people together and look for her" Jackson stood up knocking his chair backwards glaring at David.
David looked at him with a eye raised, "You think I'll be able to concentrate at school when I know she is missing?" He shouted angry at being forced to do something but not the something he wanted.
"Jay, I would do as I say, if I were you. I am not in a good mood at the moment, one of my daughters is missing" everyone in the room froze including Mum, who had been dancing a second ago.
"Do you want to take that back?" Rob asked a thoughtful David, David finally nodded slowly but then shook his head
"Actually no, because I do see you as my son and daughters I never had kids of my own, and then you guys came along. I love you lot as if you were my own. Sorry if you didn’t want that, but I've been meaning to ask if you would allow me to call you my kids? Would that alright with you?"
