Maya bit her lip, "I wish you would talk to Carina and I, but I know you're not comfortable with that just yet so until then and even after If you'd like— I think talking to a psychiatrist is a good idea for you"

"what would you know" Evelyn scoffed picking at her nail beds. Maya couldn't help but smile her foster daughter was so stubborn, just like her

"I see a therapist, twice a month now but it used to be every week" Maya began as the car stopped at a red light, "It was hard at first, it took alot of convincing. Talking about my feelings has never came easy to me,
but Diane, my therapist made me feel really comfortable. And Carinas been the best support system"

Evelyn remained silent as her foster mom spoke, her gaze fixed on the dashboard as the car started moving again, "look, just three sessions and if you don't like it for whatever reason you can call it quits"

Maya pulled into the school parking lot a few minutes later. "okay" Evelyn whispered a few moments later, her voice barley above a whisper, "I can do three"

Her foster mother smiled proudly despite  the unsure tone in the teens voice, "you won't regret it. Now have a great day at school, any problems don't hesitate to call okay, Ev?" Evelyn nodded, "carina will be here to get you to bring you to your appointment"

The blonde slung her bag over her shoulder steeping out of Mayas car, "I love you sweets", Evelyn just smiled

"hey Lyn" Athena greeted as she slid into the seat beside the blonde in their home room class at the back of the room. The room was bustling with the chatter of students despite it being barley 8am, and Evelyn was just glad that for once she wasn't the name on the tip of their tongues

Evelyn smiled at her friend, "hi" watching as the girl turned round to face her, an eager glint in her eye as she did

"I'm sorry we didn't get to talk after your interview, we were just so busy" her smile apologetic as she leaned over towards her, "speaking of, did you check your email yet?" her grin now playful

Evelyn shook her head, her nerves had gotten the better of her ,"not yet, I've been too afraid to look"

Truth be told her stomach was a ball of nerves— if she didn't get this job shed never be approved for emancipation and she'd probably loose faith also

Athena's grin widened as she gently nudged Evelyn's arm, "c'mon you've got this, I have a good feeling about it" her voice laced with encouragement

With a hesitant nod, Evelyn took a deep breath as she unlocked her phone and opened the email, her heart racing as she scanned the words on the screen. A smile broke out across her face as she read the message confirming that she'd been offered the job at District one

"oh my god" her eyes wide with disbelief, "I got the job"

Athena face lit up as she wrapped Evelyn in a spontaneous hug across the seats ignoring everyone else in the room, "see, I told you". Evelyn laughed, a feeling of relief washing over her. As she basked in the comfort of Athenas embrace she couldn't help but notice the fluttering in her own chest, a feeling she couldn't quite explain

"Thank you 'thena" Evelyn said, her tone appreciative

Athena shook her head, "why you thanking me for, that was all you" she said once they'd let go from their hug, "hey, why don't we celebrate— movie at my place later?"
