Affection - part 2

I love affection

There's always someone there to hold me

They turn off the lights and tell me goodnight

They snuggle my side and rub my skin

All my stretch marks all my rolls

Even if I looked different they say they'd still love me

They may read me bedtime stories sometimes

And when I cry they always give the best hugs

They know just what to say

And just how to do it

It's almost as if . . .

They're real.

But at least there's still someone to hold me, right?

Even If their just a simple figment of my imagination

Imagination has no limits

I could come up with anything!

From a giant to a snail

To a friend to a lover

From an enemy to a comrade

However

. . .

There is one limit that not many speak of

And that's

Reality

These characters or real-life people may be there with me but

When I reach out my hand I feel nothing but the sheets on my bed

And the air that surrounds the world

Affection is real

But the people we want to give it to us are NOT

So that's why children cry and hold there stuffed animals

That's why elders hold the hands of ghosts

Or animals continue to howl for the humans they lost long ago

That's why we visit graves and make up songs

That's why we light candles and struggle to sleep all day long

Because there's always someone who keeps us awake

They may not be there

They may not be real

But are heart aches for affection

Humans desire to walk up the stairs to reach happiness

We need love

And it all comes in many different forms

We all need love

However

. . .
