29.-Father

"Yeah," Lupita said and felt her voice crack a little. "It's just-"

"Did that bitch do something to you?" North said and leaned over the counter. Valeria began talking to John after waving at Lupita.

"No," Lupita said and dried her nose with the tissue before throwing away the tissue and grabbing a wet wipe. "I'm happy, really," she said with a crooked smile and looked at John. "Very happy."

"Good," North said and nodded. "As long as you're happy then that's fine."

"Babe," Valeria said from beside them with a small smile. "We need to leave if we want to make it."

"Where are you going?" Lupita asked and smiled at Valeria who looked concerned.

"Meeting her whole family," North said with an eye roll.

"My brother is the only mean one, the others are nice," Val said and lightly hit their arm.

"Very mean," North mumbled, which gained her another punch, only this one was harder. "I'll see you at school tomorrow. Be safe." They both walked out the door hand in hand smiling and laughing. Lupita smiled at them but felt her heart tighten.

"They seem nice," John said and rubbed her back.

"They are," Lupita said and forced a happy smile. When she turned to John his eyes were soft and understanding. "Do you need help with anything else?" she asked trying to get the pit in her stomach away by changing the topic.

"Just keep cleaning and grabbing stuff. And help the customers," he said and kissed her cheek. "We only have a few more hours and pick-ups to go and then we will relax." Lupita smiled and went to the back to pick up a few more things for pick up.

The day was over quickly and they said goodbye to the last customer before washing up and falling onto the couch in the back. Lupita let out a satisfied sigh as she stretched out on the couch. John was back in the kitchen, cooking some food for them to enjoy while watching TV. Lupita didn't understand the TV but the images, sounds, and characters entertained her enough. She still preferred quality time as the lights on the screen often hurt her eyes and the sounds often got too loud.

"How was school today?" John asked once he was done and came over with the food.

"Good," Lupita said as she moved to sit up on the couch and took her plate of food which was composed of lots of different meats and vegetables, in contrast to John's which was mostly vegetables. "It was nice to let off some steam." She decided to leave out the rouge and masked man she saw, she didn't want to worry him.

"Good. I didn't know what a "gym day" was. It sounded odd to have you do exercise so close after the new moon though," John said as he turned on the TV at low volume.

"It was nice. But... weird that we did it with the vampires."

"You did it with the vampires?" John asked and squinted his eyes at her. "Is that smart?"

"No," Lupita muffled out while her mouth was full of food. "Though I think no one died at least."

"That is reassuring," John chuckled.

They stayed silent for a while, just eating and cuddling while watching the TV. Lupita couldn't help but smile as she felt John's hand rub her back as the TV played some nonsense about small people and a ring. She had her head in his lap and was about to fall asleep before she heard him speak.

"Have you thought about what that witch said?" he asked while scratching behind her ear.

"I said yes," she said and felt her chest rumble in satisfaction.

"Were you forced to say yes?" he asked and Lupita felt a hum of a laugh in his voice.

"No," she said and nuzzled into his leg. "I want this thing off. And I can't remember a lot of what happened during that time. My wolves and my mind have suppressed almost everything."

"Ok," he said and went to scratch her neck. "As long as you are safe and are doing this by your own free will." Lupita felt a growl rumble in her chest and she smiled at the good feeling in her neck. "That is a good growl, right? I didn't say anything bad?" John asked with a small, nervous laugh. Lupita just smiled and leaned into his hand. "How is it with that vampire girl?" And just like that, the mood soured.

"Not good," Lupita said. The rumble in her chest stopped and she felt her ears press against the back of her head and move downward. "She doesn't like me."

"Doesn't that... mate bond work?" John asked and placed a hand on her shoulder as she hugged his leg.

"It should... I don't know what I am doing wrong. Maybe I'm making her uncomfortable. Maybe I just haven't been paying that much attention to the goddess recently. Maybe Loke or Fenris just have it out for me, which wouldn't be a first. Maybe I'm not good-looking enough. Maybe I'm not smart enough. Maybe-"

"Shhhhh," John suddenly whispered. Lupita stopped and turned around to hug the man as her tears flowed.

"Is there something wrong with me?" she asked as she gripped his shirt and tried to keep her claws from growing.

"There is nothing wrong with you muffin," John said and calmly rubbed circles on her back. "You are absolutely amazing. You are different, but that is not a negative thing. I don't know much about the mate bond, but from the little I know, I think she might be scared. I've heard there are some pretty intense emotions in play. This is not an excuse for how she is acting, but it might be the reason. But know that-" he pulled Lupita in front of him to look into her eyes and placed his hands on her cheeks "-you are absolutely worthy of love. And I will love you no matter what. There are people out there who will love you no matter what. You are the most amazing girl that deserves everything in the world."

Lupita only fell back into the man and hugged him as hard as she knew he could take. She loved him.

"Thank you," she whispered and nuzzled into his neck, his beard scratching her face. "I love you."

"I love you too. And don't worry too much about that girl. Either she comes around or she is an idiot," John laughed and Lupita chuckled. She knew he meant well, but it sort of hurt her to think that she might not be wanted. "Now, let's just relax. You are still weak from that new moon and you did a lot of exercise today. You deserve a little rest."

And they did. They watched the movie and ate snacks. And Lupita fell asleep in the arms of her father.

A/N: It's a little short, but don't worry, they will get longer. I already have 3 more chapters written, so get excited!!

Also, I think I'm almost done with the book. There are more, but I can see the end of this book soon.
