Caroline Forbes was a pro at snooping. She had learnt the talent in her earlier years – somehow, managing to find out everything and anything about the people around her. And now, when it was most important, her vampiric senses had only aided her ability.

She listened in from the outside of Bonnie Bennett's house – her hair pushed out of her ear.

"What're they saying?" Caroline shushed Elena, Elena rolled her eyes. They'd been standing outside of Bonnie's house for nearly twenty minutes and nothing of significance had been said yet. Elena was about to give up when Caroline tugged her arm.

"Aurelia's turned," Caroline pushed her ear back up against Bonnie's front door – "They're talking about that spell you were talking about."

Elena urged her to continue listening.

"So he's back because you've turned?"

"He can't leave, Bonnie. I know I promised you it would never come to this, but now that the prison world's gone we have no option but to kill him."

A beat of silence. And then, Bonnie's voice rang through the room, "No. No, we need him. For now. He's the only link to the girl. If she really is who the New Orleans witches say – the girl who they prophesised would be Hope, we have to-" she stopped briefly, "There's someone listening."

Caroline tugged on Elena's arm, urging her to the car when a force so unbecoming pushed them off the front porch. They landed face first in the grass. Bonnie and Aurelia appeared at the front door, Bonnie with her arms crossed and an accusatory look on her face.

"This is such green grass!" Elena exclaimed much too dramatically.

"You do say, Elena! And the sky, so beautiful!" Caroline exclaimed, matching her tone.

"My, Bonnie, I didn't see you there," Elena added, trying her best not to look like she had just committed a crime. Bonnie didn't look impressed.

"Get in, both of you," she shrugged her head towards the doorway.

The two reluctantly obeyed.

Destiny would do anything for the people she loved. People wouldn't normally describe her to be selfless, but when it came to her family, she was more than that. She would massacre whole cities, rip apart all the mountains, and set the world on fire if it meant they'd be safe.

When it comes to our loved ones, we're all a bit like that. A mix between selfless and selfish.

It's why, even now, when Freya had been chanting so hard to take out the dark magic within her, she fought. She understood magic like no other. This spell wasn't just any spell – it was bound to Kai and god knows what would happen if she released it. She knew it was strange that he was able to return to Mystic Falls – in one piece. She didn't realise, though, that he had slowly started to siphon the magic that poisoned this wretched town and put it in Hope.
