Chapter 12

Naomi-

It's been a while since I've seen Rowan outside of volunteering. It's not like those moments made much of a difference. The small progress we made with each other had dwindled back down to what it was before. Only this time I didn't even hear his snarky comments. We have our last volunteer day tonight and it is the Christmas toy drive. The school decided to host a gala since we did so well on numbers.

I was at home getting dressed. I had bought a white body-fitting satin floor length gown. It was backless with a leg slit that reached my mid thigh. Simple and elegant, my favorite. I curled my locs and put them into a cute curly bun with two front pieces centering my face.

I thought it would be cute to pair it with a red heel and clutch since Christmas was around the corner. I would show Li my outfit but she was at Alicia's getting ready for the event. They said they would meet me there. Recently, the two of them have been getting pretty close, leaving me at the house alone often. I'm happy for my best friend but I'm not sure how to feel about her. Lately I haven't been feeling too trusting.

The killing spree in Los Angeles has been continuing at a very random pace. No Rhyme or rhythm to the victims or when they happen. My mother has been calling me almost everyday and at times it's only making me more fearful. One thing about me though is I won't let anything stop me from living my life.

So, without a second thought I'm opening the doors to the school's ballroom and witnessing the beautiful scenery the school put together. I saw a beautiful huge Christmas tree in the center or the room with thousands of gifts surrounding the bottom. We put a lot of work into making this a success.

In the corner of the room I saw Lianna and Alicia talking near a table. I made my way to them and said my hellos.
" Don't you look beautiful, Naomi," Alicia exclaimed.

"You're too sweet. Have you guys been here long?"

"Not long at all. I was actually just about to text you and see how soon you would be. You know college is not my vibe" Lianna said, cringing.

All I could do was laugh at her. It was true she tried it for about a semester before crawling back home with her tail in between her legs. Her mother was furious, while my mom made her favorites for dinner. She was just special in that way.

"It shouldn't be too long and then we can go home and get drunk" I teased. My eyes scanned the room before falling back on Lianna and Alicia. I recognized a few kids from school and some other volunteers but no one that I wanted to see.

"I saw a bar in the back, why wait til later." Lianna said and then started to make her way there.
"Wait a second, the ceremony is about to start. You are not getting drunk at my job" I warned. She fake pouted and looked at Alicia for support. She just smiled and shrugged her shoulders.

"Attention everyone" a speaker started to announce. "I hope you all are having a wonderful night. With Christmas in about 2 weeks, we are pleased to announce the numbers for this year's toy drive. First I would like to thank all 30 of our volunteers and the tremendous effort it took to pull all of this together."

A projector started to lower as a screen came to life. "I would like to show you guys some clips and photos from the adventures and projects we embarked on. Again I want to give a big thanks to everyone included.

A cute and short 2 minute clip showed all of us working together, laughing, and other things of that sort. I couldn't help but search for Rowan in all of the clips. I searched the crowd again for him. It was mandatory for him to be here. That's when I finally spotted him. At the bar looking worse then I think I've ever seen him. Surprisingly, he still makes it look so sexy. After the speech was over and people started socializing again I made my way over to him.
