3rd Person P.O.V.

James was panicking. He didn't know why but he had a feeling it had to do something with his mate. His parents had insisted that she stay with them at the pack house until they figured everything out, or indefinitely if she wanted to, and sent her back to her cabin in the woods. James wanted to go with her but his mate didn't want her private home which had been a secret since before she was born to be found out, even if he was her mate.

It scared him to think something could have happened to her. He might not have known her very long but he couldn't lose her. She was the best thing that had ever happened to him. He would give up everything to have her.

James' worry only continued to grow as the seconds ticked by. After what felt like years but was realistically only a few hours, he decided to call his mate. He was as anxious as the phone rang, expecting it to be answered by the third ring. He pulled his phone away from his cheek after hearing her voicemail, looking at it with shock-filled eyes. She normally picked up, he thought to himself. Something was wrong. He knew it. She said she would only be gone for an hour, it's been three. She wouldn't lie. Her mate knew that.

What if she ran off and left us? was the thought that stood out the most in James' mind. He didn't want to believe that she would though. If she were affected half as much by the mate bond as he was, she wouldn't be capable of doing so. Her wolf wouldn't allow it.

'Find her,' Jack snapped through their link. 'She didn't run from us. She wouldn't. She's not afraid of what's to come, I know it.'

'I know she's not afraid,' James fired back with agitation. 'And we will find her no matter what.'

'We better.' The worry in his voice didn't go unnoticed by his human counterpart. He hadn't ever heard his wolf sound like that in all of the amount of time he had known him, and he lived in his head. He was truly terrified at the thought of losing his mate. It truly scared both of them. at the thought of losing their mate.

James went to his parents to ask what he should do. He knew he shouldn't waste any time looking for them and start his search for his mate but he wanted to know their opinions on everything. He had never hidden anything from his parents in his life, even the time he got drunk with some of his friends when he was fifteen and they crashed into a tree, almost dying in the process. They were furious with him when he told them the next morning but they were just happy that he was not dead. The only thing he had ever hidden from them was finding his mate and that didn't last long.

He found his mother first. She was shocked to see him looking frantically around having normally seen her son composed.

She spotted him before he saw her, calling out her son's name before approaching him. He stared at his mother, his expression morphing into one of relief before quickly remembering his task at hand. He grabbed his mother firmly by the shoulders but not hard enough to hurt her.

"What do I do?" he asked frantically. "She's not back. Where is she? Mom, what do I do?"

"What do you do about what? James, who's not back? What are you talking about, baby?" James' mother was confused and didn't know what her son kept rambling about. She wanted to help him but she didn't know how.

"Jackie. She's not back. She said she'd only be gone for an hour and it's been three. I don't know what to do. I don't know where she is. She won't answer her phone and I don't even know where to look for her. What do I do, Mom?" He looked around frantically at all the people currently in the pack house. They could be listening in but he didn't care. All he cared about was finding his mate and making sure she was safe.

"Okay, okay, calm down. We're going to figure this out. You can't freak out though, okay? You have to be focused on the objective. Calm down." She patted her son on the cheek comfortingly before continuing, "Let's go find your father. Surely he'll know what to do."

"Okay, I just need to find her," he said, his voice full of emotions he'd never felt before, let alone express.

"I know, baby, I know."
