Factoids:

In her autobiography, Sheila E. recalled being sexually abused. She placed particular emphasis on being raped at the age of five by a relative responsible for babysitting her (but that was not the only incident). Music was a source of comfort for her, both then and as she got older and struggled with the lingering side effects of trauma (like sensitivity to certain sounds, fear of the dark/sleeping at night, and emotional outbursts). Eventually, her faith journey led her to process the abuse more fully, and music became a way of sharing her story. On a very different note, Sheila described her young adult bedroom as both a rudimentary recording studio and a setting for jam sessions with friends. Posters of acts she admired were used as décor.
