Taylor Swift: Mother

You: Female & 16

Taylor nervously paced around the dim-lit living room, anxiously waiting for you to come home. You told her you'd be home by ten, but it was almost midnight and you weren't answering your phone. Each second felt like an eternity and she was trying to refrain from calling the cops because she knew there was a good chance you forgot about the time. Sensing her panic, the small ragdoll cuddles into Taylor's leg, hoping to relive some stress.

"Thank you, Benji," she sighed, picking up the cat.

Just as she was about to breakdown, her anxiety getting the best of her, she heard the door creak open. She heard light foot steps trying to make it's way upstairs, realizing you were trying to sneak back in. After realizing you were safe now, all her tension and anxiety turned into frustration and anger.

"Young lady, do you know what time it is?" she asks, catching you by surprise.

You went out for dinner and a movie with three of your closets friends as a celebration for passing all your classes. The movie ended a little after ten and your friends had convinced you to get ice cream with them. You were hesitant because your phone died and you didn't want to worry your mom, but you ultimately agreed. You hadn't realized that over two hours had gone by until your friends reminded you. It was a little past midnight and you hoped your mom was asleep and you would be able to sneak in. As you quietly opened the door and tried to tip-toe past the stairs, thinking you weren't caught, you heard your mom's voice.

You froze as you looked over at her silhouette in the dark room. She repeated the question again, in a harsher tone, placing her hand on her hip. When your mother had her hand on her hip and her lecturing finger out, you knew you were in for it. The small white-furred cat walked past you, bumping past your leg in an effort to show you his anger.

"I'm sorry, I lost track of time," you explained.

"You were two hours late! Two hours! I was really worried, it's midnight for God's sake. Do you know how many dangerous and scary things go on outside and you're a teenager!" Taylor exclaims.

"I literally told you I'm sorry, what more do you want?" you ask, raising your voice.

"I'm trying to tell you how dangerous it is out there at night. Something could have happened to you!" she replied.

"But I'm fine, I'm here!" you say, raising your voice even more.

"Don't even right now. Go to your room," she says, pinching the bridge of her nose with her fingers.

"What, you're not going to yell at me more?" you ask sarcastically, pushing her limits.

"Go to your room!" she yells, pointing her fingers at the stairs.

You roll your eyes and trudge up the stairs, upset at your mom for making such a big deal. Nothing happened to you and you apologized, she needed to calm down. You threw your boots against the floor before slipping into one of your mother's shirts that you stole. After a couple minutes of laying down, all your anger went away, turning into guilt. You knew she was worried and she had every reason to be mad at you, you just wanted to be right, and that wasn't fair to her. Right as you were about to talk to her, there was a gentle knock, and your mother came in a minute later.

"Hey, honey," she said, peeking in.

"Hey mom," you reply.

"What's wrong?" she asks, sensing the difference of tone in your voice.

"I'm sorry about what I said, I was just too tired and stubborn, but you were right," you admit.

"I know you just needed a minute to think about it. But please don't ever be that late again, especially if you don't tell me," she sighed.

"I won't."

"You're still grounded though."

"I know," you sigh.

She sits down next to you, wrapping you in a tight hug. She was so relieved that you made it home safely. Her eyes furrowed in confusion as she recognized your shirt.

"Is that my shirt?" she asks.

"No," you mumble, unconvincingly, making her laugh.
