-SHHHK-

-PHEWWWW-

As the shot of the bow goes so does its sound.

-CAWW-

A loud noise followed by silence

I have killed a songbird

With their wings the size of humans they are heavy to carry around.

But to me, the one who evolves will take part in this easily

I carry the songbird out of their herd as it leaves a trail of blood from its missing head.

The barkeep told me that the place they were in was a green hillside rock up the town nearby.

I studied them intently in the past weeks.

Learning how they move, eat, and call for their mates.

The most vulnerable state that I see them in is the state where they call for a mate since they don't have good eyesight they use their call to attract mates.

When they move, they move in herds.

When they eat, they eat together

Berries from the top of the trees or corpses of small game.

They never interact with humans.

But when they mate their call will make other songbirds go away in respect for their friend.

They have a simple mind but they have decency or have a form of it.

I have killed one but a qoir is soon to follow.

Their friend was killed, no reason not to take revenge.

But a qoir will make the ecosystem around it go mad and put the village near here in danger.

So most people that hunt the bastards used to hunt a whole qoir down.

So in this case the town should be in danger.

There's a tactic on Earth called isolating the supply.

Where people can hunt down enemy troops by removing their supply line and crippling them.

So I looked for spots that had large amounts of berries and waited for a songbird to go there.

They will Caw when they eat, that is when I will shoot them down.

When the trees are burning I will shoot them all down.

They cannot fly well because the smoke blocks their horrible eyesight.

And if they caw the smoke will get to their large mouths.

A distraction to kill one.

While the others try to escape, I will use their blindspots to kill one.

They won't care anymore for one bird that flew away from the burning trees.

They will expect that bird to have died and leave them be.

They are simple-minded after all.

As the birds caw while their friends are on fire.

The sound isn't enough to produce a qoir since the forest fire screams much louder.

-CAW-

-PHEWWW-

A shot in the head puts the songbird to sleep.

I dragged the body to a nearby clearing while the forest tops were on fire.

Inefficient but there are no casualties.

"Why did the barkeep tell me to attack the songbirds if they can cause a qoir?"

I walk out of the forest still burning with the carcass of one songbird.

The nearby caws cannot be heard

Only the blaze is.
