BOOK ONE
CHAPTER TWO . TWO

STEVE ROGERS

He was always able to read expressions and listen to people's words. There was a lot more Adrienne was saying without saying much, and Steve could have left well enough alone, but like everyone else, he was curious.
It didn't seem like she was willingly open to talk about her secrets though. Fury was helping out with that, and what better way to spill her secrets than to send her on a mission she had no business or training to do? It made things awkward; it made things weird because what was so secret that she had to fight with the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. to skip out on a mission she was ordered to do. Which made no sense to Steve because she was a personal assistant not an hour ago. Something wasn't adding up, and Steve wasn't sure he wanted to bring up his concerns at this time.
He could have followed Adrienne and figured out the information he needed, himself. But he decided against it for the time being because he was made aware that he could ask her once he and Adrienne were on the ground working together. She wouldn't be able to avoid his questions then.

If only it could have been that easy.
