After the chaotic party on Friday night, I'm relieved to be back at school on Monday. Despite this, however, I'm anxious to see everyone. I haven't heard from anyone after leaving the party, and I'm not entirely sure why I feel so nervous.

But school is normal. My morning classes pass by like usual with no one making any moves to interrogate me about my seven minutes in heaven with Ashton (which I find myself daydreaming about, interrupting my normally steel-like focus and dedication to the classroom), although I'm yet to see anyone I recognised at the party.

The bell rings for recess, and I head to my locker to drop off my books and grab a snack. I'm almost done, closing my locker when I see Ryan. Cringing, I bury my face in the locker, pretending not to see.

'Billie?'

Too late. I snap my locker door shut. Ryan casually leans against the lockers with a small smile. I grimace a smile in return.

'Hi Ryan.'

'I know we have some history, but I was wondering if I could ask you something?'

'We don't have history,' I raise my eyebrow and cross my arms.

'No, I didn't mean it like that!' Ryan hurries to correct himself. 'I just– can I ask you something?'

I squeeze my eyes shut and press a hand to my temple before releasing. 'I'm sorry, but I still don't want to go out with you.'

'No, no! I wanted to ask if it was okay if I asked Stephanie out.'

My jaw drops.

'Stephanie? You– you want to ask out Stephanie?'

He nods, a grin spreading across his face. 'I just thought I should check with you first if it's okay.'

This is a revelation.

'I... I guess it's okay. I don't really have a problem with that.'

'Really?' It doesn't take much effort to imagine a wagging tail sticking out of Ryan's pants.

'Sure...' I grimace. 'I don't see why not...'

'Do you know what kinds of things she likes?' I can almost see the tail wagging faster.

'I'm not sure,' I admit, shrugging. Ideally I could say something Stephanie hates, but I truly don't know Stephanie very well at all.

'Oh, well that's fine. I have something planned anyway,' he nods. 'Thank you so much Billie!'

And then he's gone.

I turn back to my locker, sighing. I think I know exactly what he has planned for Stephanie.

Luckily for me, there is no need to worry about unwanted attention from the party. By lunch, Ryan is prepared. I groan as I approach the picnic table. For a second time, it is covered in flowers and balloons. Ryan stands in front of it, holding a single rose and a hopeful expression. It falls when he sees me.
