DISCLAIMER, aka ground rules this story is based on the selection by kiera cass. however! i am not a dystopian writer, so the stuff concerning politics is mostly absent bc i am here for the drama and don't have time for all that. i wrote this with an audience who has not read the selection in mind, so besides the country being illéa and the royal name being schreave, not a lot matches up to the original series. so don't get too confused when there's no caste system or obvious corruption (or maxon, or america) because that is not the world you're entering. as is tradition, the heir to the illéan throne is hosting a selection to find a spouse, and drama will ensue—that's all you need to know!

a quick note on formatting FIRST LOVE and its sequel LATE SPRING (get it?) are told through dual povs of aurora and thomas. aurora's chapters are designated with a star (⭑) and thomas's with a crown (♛). chapters without either designation are in-universe newspapers or magazine articles from various fictional publications. if you can't tell already, this story is about FAME! PUBLICITY! and most of all, DRAMA!
