Nicola looked at the neatly folded envelope on her hand with grimace written across her face.
Moments ago, she was just with the greatest person in her life, standing in the midst of the rain, shouting at each other in agony. The person whom she thought and promised would never leave, finally walked away from her sight. Without a single spark of hope left between them, they ran further across the distance with scars in their hearts.
As she sat on the couch soaking wet from the rain, tears ran down her face as she opened the letter.
And she read,
"Dear my love,
If the question ever crosses your mind, do you not love me anymore? My answer is no, I still love you, but I can’t love myself when Im with you and for the first time in forever I choose myself. You couldn’t give me the kind of love I want and that’s not your fault because no one else can give me that love but me. I couldn’t love you properly either because I don’t know where to get the love that you need. No one ever has to teach someone how to love. We learn it by ourselves, from people, from different situations, either too late or just in time. Sad to say, now is not the right moment for us.
Nicola, I hope you understand how conflicted we are. Maybe, there’s another lifetime waiting for us. I love you always.
Your forever star,
Daniel"
Nicola froze at his last words.
"Your forever star?"
She questioned everything they had together. Whether she ever made any impact in his life or not. She thought she has done everything, starting from doing lab experiments together, watching the stars with their telescope, writing poetry about the galaxies and their undying love for each other, and how they argued about how much she hated the sun.
Yet Daniel always thought that the sun was also a star, the one that stays unconditionally, the one that gives life. He thought he was her everything and he gave her everything.
Yet, he was burning on his own.
