So cold.

Moon stood in the Great Plaza of the SandWing palace which was decked out in radiant red and green lights all over. The sweet aroma of hot cocoa wafted through the air, and the sounds of SandWings laughing echoed through the night as they interacted with each other. Due to the War of SandWing Succession, the SandWings weren't really able to celebrate holidays and traditions as a tribe. Queen Thorn was making up for it by hosting parties and festivals at her palace and this one in particular, was for Christmas.

The SandWings exchanged gifts, sung carols, and decorated cookies and gingerbread houses. Everything was just so....

Cold. Moon shivered and wrapped her wings around herself. It seemed ridiculous, Moon was literally standing in the desert. Still, she couldn't help but long for warmth. Something that would make her stop trembling.

"Guess who!" Someone said as a pair of warm talons covered Moon's eyes.

Moon allowed a small smile to peek through. "Qibli?"

"Aww how'd you know?" Qibli said as he slowly removed his talons from Moon's eyes. Moon turned to face him and had to hold in her giggles as he pretended to be upset and stuck out his bottom lip to make her laugh.

"Lucky guess." Moon said, grinning at him. Qibli beamed back.

"Now what's a NightWing like yourself doing at a SandWing Christmas party?"

"I was invited."

"Really? By who?"

"You."

"Hmm. I don't know. I don't think I would invite somebody just for them to hide in a corner for the whole party."

"I don't like big crowds."

"You don't have to stay directly in the crowd." Qibli pointed out. "You can watch the music performers off to the side, or stand at one of the tables."

"I don't want to be by myself." Moon said.

"You won't be. I'll be with you." Qibli contradicted.

"Well..." Moon tried.

"Well?"

"It's just um...All those minds together in one place...It gets overwhelming, y'know?"

Qibli considered this for a moment. Then finally he said "You want to stay here?"

"Considering the alternatives, I do."

"Then I guess I'll just have to stay right here with ya." Qibli replied.

Moon searched his face for any trace of a joke, but he was as serious as she had ever seen him. "But...The party."

"It'd be really elfish of me to leave such an adora-bell face all by themselves."

Moon giggled, her spirits lifting. "Where do you learn all these puns?"

"I'll never sleigh." Qibli said, grinning as Moon wheezed, struggling to hold herself upright.

Once Moon managed to gather herself Qibli spoke,

"Follow me, I wanna show you something."

Qibli held out his talon and Moon took it as he led them away from the mingling SandWings. He helped her navigate the hallways of the SandWing palace, and guided her when weaving through passageways. They then reached the bottom of a tower with stairs winding up to the top.

"Almost there." Qibli assured.

They started walking up the stairs, talon in talon, with Qibli leading and Moon trailing barely a step behind him. Moon couldn't help but melt over the feeling of Qibli's warm and cozy talon holding her own.

Moon continued to silently swoon until they reached the top of the tower. "Here." Qibli said as they walked out onto the balcony outside.

"Wow." Moon gasped at the view of the twinkling stars and brilliant moons. The stars sprinkled across the sky in dazzling and intricate constellations. They sparkled like diamonds in the night sky, as if to outshine the Christmas decorations. The moons, two full and one half moon, glared down at the desert below, illuminating the night.

Moon stared in awe. "Wow." She repeated. Qibli smiles at her.

"Like it?" He asked expectantly.

"I love it," Moon voiced. "I mean, have you ever seen something so...beautiful?"

"Yeah, I have."

Moon turned to find Qibli staring at her, and she felt herself blushing.

"You didn't have to leave the party for me y'know."

"I know, I wanted to."

" But...Why? You're just so...Amazing! Why waste your time on someone like me?"

"Time with you is never wasted Moon. I don't think you realize how special you are."

"You're just saying that to be nice."

"No I'm not." Qibli was standing right in front of her face now, and Moon could feel the warmth radiating off of him.

"You're sweet, patient, and empathetic, you're always trying to help people. You're so optimistic about the future and believe in every dragon." Qibli kept inching closer as he spoke, using his talon to lift up Moon's chin. "I don't know where I'd be without you."Qibli breathed.

Their mouths were an inch apart now, the gap was there, waiting, begging to be closed.

Then it was.

Moon immediately relaxed, easing into the kiss. Qibli held her in his arms, and she couldn't have felt more safe than anywhere in the world. She never wanted to leave. She wanted to feel Qibli's soft lips against hers forever.

But all good things must come to an end.

Qibli slowly pulled away, both of them breathless from their recent interaction.

"You..." Moon tried. "You're so..."

"S-mitten with you?" Qibli suggested.

Moon laughed. So funny. "Seriously where do you come up with this stuff?"

"I dunno, I'm a genius."

"You ever gonna stop?"

Qibli grinned as he wrapped his wing around her.

"Never."

Moon smiled in his warm embrace. She didn't have a problem with that. She'd never have a problem with him.

He's so warm.

"Hey Moon?"

"Yeah?"

"Merry Christmas."

"Merry Christmas to you too."

I feel so warm.

Author's Note:

I kinda rushed this one, because I didn't want to post a Christmas chapter in the middle of February lol. I noticed towards the end how not much of Moon's direct thoughts were in here, that's my bad. Hope you still enjoyed! Comment any feedback or requests, Bye!
