Habang ipinaliwanag ng announcer ang mga detalye ng unang laro, pinulupot ni Jonah ang kanyang mga kamay sa aking mga kamay at marahang pinisil iyon. Kahit papaano ay nagbigay ito sa akin ng lakas ng loob.

Itinuon ko ang paningin ko sa mga armas na nakadisplay malapit sa amin. Ang dahilan kung bakit hindi kami hinikayat na dalhin ang aming armas ay ibibigay nila ito para sa amin.

"The first game of the first day of the yearly tournament will be inside the maze. All of you will be divided into ten groups. A maze will appear in front of you and within the maze, the group has to find their assigned gem according to the group's color. You will find all those gems inside the maze and whoever finds their gem wins and the one who doesn't succeed will be eliminated from the game. In this game, players have to be quick to find it, and whoever finds more than just their designated gems wins. If you find two or more gems, the team can claim it and automatically pass the game with 10 points for each stolen gem. But, you have to secure the gems and find a way to get out of the maze before the other team steals from you."

Stealing? Madali lang ito para sa akin, pero dahil kalaban namin ang mga mages, hindi ako dapat ako pakampante.

"In front of you, there is a wooden tag inside a large box that will indicate which team you belong to. Choose one and find your teams."

We all chose our team's indicator, a small wooden object, one by one and then went to our team. When it was finally my turn to choose a color, I put my hand inside the big box and took out a wooden tag. My tongue moved to say the color and the announcer announced which team I was on as well as the others after choosing their team.

"Aeryn for team Ruby!"

Nandoon si Victoria nang pumunta ako sa team ko, kumakaway at nakangiti sa akin na para bang close na kami pagkatapos ng maikling pag-uusap namin kanina. Binigyan ko siya ng isang maliit na ngiti ng maalala na baka nasa kanya ang impormasyong kailangan ko o siya ang hinahanap namin. Tumingin ako sa kabilang grupo at nakita ko si Grim kasama si Jonah na magkasama sa isang team. Sina Ryze, Cyber, at Amber ay magkasama sa black team, habang sina Sivir, Cyber, at Red ay nasa purple team. Ako lang ang nahiwalay sa kanila.

After all the teams were completed, stone walls appeared from the ground, and I stared at them in awe. The ground didn't even break. It must be an illusion! How does a stone wall come out of the ground? Just like that? Is this science? Or magic?

Matangkad ang mga pader, hindi bababa sa limang talampakan. Ito ay ang maze kung saan kami maglalaro na ipinakita sa malaking monitor sa itaas ng field, na tila tulad ng snowflake na simbolo ng isang maze, ngunit may isang kumplikadong pattern. Pagkatapos nito'y may lumulutang din na screens sa ere na nagpapakita sa mga participants at sa buong lugar.

"All players are encouraged to choose a weapon or two within the maze and wear their vest for protection. No cheating and absolutely no killing. Remember, the goal of this game is to find your assigned gems and whoever has the gem has to find a way out of the maze. You will have one hour to get out of the maze. Today, we finally announce the opening of The Embers Tournament. Let the games begin!"

Kumuha ako ng isang dagger at maikling espada sa mga naka-display na mga sandata. Before I stepped inside the maze, a man wearing a red uniform attached a small round metal to my chest and then, a white fabric covers my entire body before it disappears.

"Isn't this Dr. Lurey's invention?" I asked.

"The concept may be similar, but Dr. Crail was the one who invented this."
