"Anahira Lani Johnson!
You get back up right here, right now at this fucking moment!" I heard my cousin yell as I was setting up the table.
"No!" She equally barked and made an appearance in the dining section. She grinned widely and gave me a tight hug.
I sighed and waited for it.
"You motherfucker!"
He seethed as he strolled into the kitchen.
"Give me. My. Gummy bears"
I closed my eyes in disappointment. This was why, this was why I hated stocking up the house with snacks.
"You get another, wide ape" he gasped and looked at me. I rolled my eyes and continued setting up the table.
"You can't ignore me, V."
This mother-this idiot is fucking 25 and a godamn officer.
He scoffed and went on to Lani who started a game of chase with him.
"Give me my gummy bears"
"No, these are the last ones"
"Exactly my point!"
"Get another"
"No"
"You are working" I gritted my jaws, from annoyance.
"So fucking what?"
"You have tons of money"
"Fuck you, Lani" deep breaths, in and out..
"Fuck you too, Nevan"
"I swear to God, Lani.."
"Cut. It. Out!" I glared at the both of them and they seized as if they were put in a trance. Two idiots.
Walking up to the two of them, I snatch the bag and drew their ears for good 5 minutes, yes, I counted.
"How many times have I warned you both not to fight for snacks?"
They winced loudly as I drew their ears out.
"You guys are giving me a damn headache and it's 8 in the morning." Sternly I said, hoping that they see how early it was for them to start this.
"Sorry, Avy"
"Sorry, V"
I let them go with a glare. "You both will share this pack of gummy bears equally, clear?"
'Yes' resonated round the living room and I went back to the kitchen to finish setting up the table. I could still hear some aggressive whispers though.
I massaged my temples.
Those two will be the end of me, literally.
"Let's eat" I yelled to the living room and seconds later, Nevan and Lani strolled in, swinging hands and all, each popping a gummy bear in their mouths.
Ugh, these two.
"What time do you have classes, Lani?" I glanced at them as they made small talks.
"My classes starts from 10, and I 'd be done around 4"
He nodded.
"I 'll drop you off. What time do you go to the bakery, V?
I paused thinking. I asked Carl to help me with the morning shifts yesterday, so..
"By 1"
"Oh, I won't be able to drop you off. Get a car, seriously"
"I can't.."
"Let me get you a car"
I frowned.
"No"
"Why fucking not?"
"I don't like those complicated machines"
Nevan shook his head and smiled.
"Money will be on the counter. Get an Uber, yeah?"
I nodded, my heart warming at the way he takes care of Lani and I.
They both left and it was only I at home.
I laid on my bed after tidying up the whole place.
Closing my eyes, I sighed.
We were once a happy family.
Until death took away our Parents, 9 years ago, in a very horrible car accident.
I smiled as a random memory of Mum chasing Dad around with a turning stick came to mind. They were our own Tom and Jerry. Lani and I used to have a lot of fun watching them. Them and uncle Thomas were all we had.
Until that day.
They promised Lani and I that they wouldn't stay out too late, yet we never saw them again. I wiped a tear.
Uncle Thomas was my father's brother and Nevan's Father, who took us in and treated Lani and I well. I miss him.
I made a mental note to call him later.
When Nevan was 22, he told Uncle Tom that he would like to get another house and move in with Lani and I. We were all surprised. He said he's a big man now and he wants his sisters with him. Telling uncle Tom that he can have the house to him and his current girlfriend, Leena.
She's a nice woman.
I sighed again, sleep engulfing me.
This is just the beginning, I guess.
