XXII. Surprise!

Mia stood by the parking lot waiting patiently. She knew they didn't talk that much but it was his birthday, she never missed his birthday and she never planned to.

So, there she was at Bristol waiting for her best friend to arrive. Lando was told that it was Oliver that was going to pick him up.

The singer was standing in front of the car when she caught sight of her best friend. And like always, the mere sight of him made her stop.

Her jaw dropped, she hasn't seen him in person for so long. He was still Lando, the dorky and silly best friend of hers but he was also Lando, the sweet and caring love of her life.

Oh right, she had started to accept it. After having a long talk with Noah, she had started to get some confidence to admit it to herself.

"You can't keep doing this to yourself Ames. You two have grown. He has gone through races with great results and you with sold out shows every time. I think you're plan back fired." Noah told her.

Mia frowned, "This wasn't the plan-" "Screw the plan Ames. You will never love anyone else like you do Lando and honestly I think you miss each other too much. Stop hurting the both of you."

Lando looked around for his older brother. He frowned, Oliver was usually on time. As if sensing his frustration, Mia gulped.

"Lan!" she yelled. Lando's head whipped to where the familiar voice came from. There he saw his best friend waving her arm with a big smile on her face.

It was the same smile. He couldn't help but smile back and turned to her. He watched as Mia ran to him, him opening his arms wide.

Mia did not hesitate to jump in his arms. It was like two puzzle pieces back together, Lando felt complete. His heart beating so fast it was starting to ache from the happiness he was feeling.

Having her in his arms, it was like the world was back on his side.

"What are you doing here?" he asked. Mia huffed and pulled away slightly. She kept her hands on his shoulders and scowled at him, "I fucking flew all the way here Lando. It's you're birthday. I never miss your birthday."

Her words made his heart swell. He couldn't help but cup her cheeks, smushing them together making her groan. "Thank you." He said as he let her cheeks go.

Mia smiled and hugged him again. "I would do everything for you Lando..." She may have the confidence to admit it to herself but not enough to say it to his face.

She felt him nuzzle his face on the crook of her neck. She let out a breath, she missed this. His hugs.

"Happy Birthday Lanlan."

"Thank you Mimi."

Lando walked back to the living room. The telly was still on, a random show playing. There on the couch laid Mia with Uno snuggled beside her.

Oh how he wished he was Uno at that moment.

"Dammit Arnold." He heard Mia mumble. He glanced at the TV to realize it was Hey Arnold playing. He chuckled and sat on the couch. Mia looked up at him.

She smiled, "Hey birthday boy." She said. He smiled back at her, "Not birthday boy anymore." He said motioning to the clock above the telly.

Mia scoffed and turned back to watch the show. "I haven't slept yet, so it's still you're birthday to me." She said with a yawn.

The singer had drank a few glasses of wine, getting into the Norris' dinner conversation from earlier. And as much as the killer hangover Lando had to take care of every time, he always adored drunk or tipsy Mia.

The two sat in silence, the silent snores of the golden retriever and the show engulfed them. "Where's Kate?" Mia finally asked.

Lando hummed and continued to keep his eyes on the screen, "She needs to catch up with work. She did call though." He said.

"That's nice of her."

"It is."

Silence.

Lando did not notice or feel, Mia was staring at him, "Lan..." He hummed and turned to her, "Yes Mimi?"

Her mind and heart were yelling at her to say it. But she back out, "Happy birthday."

He smiled at her and leaned to kiss her forehead, "Thanks Mimi. Does this mean my birthday gift can be anything I want?"

"Sure..."

"Well, will you write about me?"

Mia smiled sadly at him, "You're silly Lan..." If only he knew.
