Chapter 89 - Proposal(s)

Start from the beginning

 This.

I do still have the ring, right?

Full of panic, my hand shot to my pocket.

 Phew!

 It's still there.

Taking a few more deep breaths, I took his hand.

 "Walk with me?"

He held my hand and allowed me to pull him along.

"You know, back in your domain, I was afraid as well."

He froze in his tracks, his gaze wavering.

"Both you and... well, other you, told over and over again not to do it. How it was a bad idea. That I could die. It would be a lie to say that I wasn't terrified."

His hand tightened around mine, almost painfully so.

"But I couldn't die. I had something waiting for me after all. Someone.

I knew I had to survive. I had to survive to be able to see you smile once more. You're crying face couldn't be the last thing I saw before dying.

If I was gonna die from something, it better be a heart attack from seeing you smile brightly.

That, or one of Sigewinne's shakes."

A chuckle slipped past his lips, his hand holding mine loosening just a bit.

"So, I survived. I survived for the both of us."

 And...

"Now I'm stuck here with you for an eternity so..."

I slipped my hand from his hold, reaching into my pocket for the small box I had hidden away there.

I went down on one knee, looking deep into his eyes.

"Neuvillette, will you marry me? Will you do me the honor of becoming partners for life in human terms as well?"

His eyes filled with shock and there was silence.

 Silence.

 And more silence.

 Okay.

 This...

 This, I was not expecting.

Just as I was about to start losing my mind-

 "Yes."

 "Yes?"

"Yes, of course I'll marry you." He repeated, sounding somewhat panicked.

 Oh...

 Oh, wow!

I barely stopped myself from jumping up in happiness.

 The ring!

"Neuv, could I have your hand for a moment?"

 "My hand?"

 "Yes, your left hand."

He stuck his hand out to me, his eyes full of wonder.

I quickly slipped the ring onto his finger before something unexpected could happen.

 And now...

Now I can jump up in happiness!

And I did, pulling him into a tight hug in the process.

 "Thank you." I mumbled.

Thank you for going through with this even though you might not see the meaning behind this.
