Mi Cha was born in Korea. From a young age, she excelled in her studies and in the way of fighting but both her parents despised her because of her close appearance with her English aunt Jane. Once her younger sister Ji-a was born she was immediately jealous of her because of how much her parents loved her and would try anything to get it. At 11 she was fed up and reached out to Jane asking to stay with her. Jane eventually agreed and arranged a ticket for her to go to New Jersey. She stayed there alone with her aunt until she heard the news of her parent's divorce from Ji-a and how badly Ji-a and her new youngest sister Hana were being treated. She convinced her aunt to help Ji-a also run away to New Jersey and eventually Jane agreed and Ji-a started living with them. Mi Cha tried her best to help raise Ji-a even though Ji-a barely spoke English at all. They developed a close sisterly bond by the time Ji-a was 15 when their aunt Jane went missing and Mi Cha quit school to take care of Ji-a while she also ran the jewelry shop her aunt owned. At the age of 18 it came back that their aunt Jane had passed away, they told Ji-a because of a bad car accident but they told Mi Cha the real reason, she had been killed doing s.h.i.e.l.d's work. She continued to run the jewelry shop until she was 19 when she was offered a place as a soldier in the Ten Rings. She trained for 5 years at the compound while constantly communicating with Ji-a and starting to reconnect with her mother before moving to Tao Lao becoming one with Tao Lo and master the their magical arts.
