London, 1917.
Oliver Brown, a young lieutenant in WW1, enlists the help of a spiritualist medium to complete an impossible task and impress the girl he loves.
The biggest problem? The girl is already engaged to his best friend. And she wants him to...
A lot of the places mentioned in this story are real. Most of the London spots come up in the book War Birds: Diary of an Unknown Aviator as popular hang-outs for pilots in WW1.
Murray's Cabaret Club
Established in 1913, it was eventually closed in the 1970s.

Wellington College
Founded to educate the sons of deceased army officers. In this story, Oliver, Archie, Rosalind and Walt are alumni.
I mention some bullying--that isn't intended as a slight on Wellington College in particular. My impression from novels and memoirs is that bullying tended to be a feature (not a bug) of public schools at the time.

Hackney Wick
The pub run by Emmaline's family and the dye works run by Oliver's mother are made up. However, there was at least one dye works in Hackney Wick along the River Lea/Lee canal around that time.
