In the depths of one's soul, a fear does dwell,
A fear of abandonment, we know so well,
Yet in the quest for love and acceptance, we stray,
Abandoning ourselves, night and day.
We suppress our emotions, in shadows we hide,
Afraid that our true selves will be denied,
But in this self-abandonment, we pay a cost,
For our authenticity, forever lost.
Boundaries crumble like castles of sand,
As we yield to others, at their command,
In the pursuit of validation's sweet song,
We forget our worth, where we truly belong.
People-pleasers, we dance on strings,
Ignoring our hearts, as the pendulum swings,
In this masquerade, we wear a mask,
Hoping, just hoping, that love will last.
Self-criticism, our constant refrain,
In the theater of doubt, we're the star of the pain,
But this inner battle, we must transcend,
For self-love and acceptance, it's time to befriend.
Close relationships, we may choose to evade,
To shield ourselves from the price to be paid,
Yet in isolation, we're adrift and alone,
Longing for connection, a place to call home.
In solitude's embrace, we may seek our release,
But it's in connection, our hearts find their peace,
To abandon ourselves, it's a costly fee,
For the greatest love begins with you and me.
So let us rewrite this narrative's trend,
Embrace ourselves fully, as a loyal friend,
In self-love's garden, we'll surely find,
The fear of abandonment, left far behind.
