As a birthday present to myself (August 12th), I'm diving into darker themes.  Particularly those of horror and dark romance.

For this fic, I was inspired by a number of books, shows, and movies that deal with pregnancy, infertility, and the devil.  So, suffice it to say that this story will have some triggering material (much like the sources that inspired this fic).  But rest assured that I'll be using trigger warnings when those sensitive issues arise!

What inspired me:

The 1967 Ira Levin novel, Rosemary's Baby and it's 1968 adaptation (by the same name) is one of my favorite stories

The 1967 Ira Levin novel, Rosemary's Baby and it's 1968 adaptation (by the same name) is one of my favorite stories.  I think it's frightening and intriguing, and very well written and acted.  For those who don't know what "Rosemary's Baby" is about, it's about Guy and Rosemary Woodhouse who move into a new apartment that has some kooky neighbors.  Eventually, Rosemary becomes pregnant and starts to suspect that her neighbors are a part of a Satanic cult who planning to use her baby in a ritual.

With "Hereditary" (2018), I feel that it's almost a spiritual successor to "Rosemary's Baby" as it's about a grieving family being tormented by supernatural elements that revolve around the maternal grandmother's secret.  "Hereditary" is easily one of my favorite horror movies to come out in the last decade.  Even if it did scare my mom so severely that I can't even mention the movie around her without her having nightmares.  So, yeah!

"Devil's Due" (2014) is a found footage film about a couple who become pregnant from their honeymoon and strange occurrences start to happen

"Devil's Due" (2014) is a found footage film about a couple who become pregnant from their honeymoon and strange occurrences start to happen.  It's not the greatest film, but it can still be unsettling.  I remember it freaked out my brother (a soon-to-be dad at the time).

With "Annabelle" (2014), I find the aesthetic to be appealing more than the actual movie/story.  It's about a young couple in 1969 who is attacked by cult members and then are attacked by supernatural forces that threatens to take their infant daughter's soul.

"Anything for Jackson" (2020) is about grandparents who kidnap a pregnant woman so they can perform a ritual to place their deceased grandson's spirit into the woman's unborn child.  Mayhem ensues.  Honestly, this was as much of a dark comedy to me as it was a supernatural horror.

"American Horror Story" is a favorite of mine.  The seasons that are the most inspirational to this fic are:

"Murder House" from 2011, follows Ben, Vivien, and their teenage daughter, Violet as they move from Boston to Los Angeles for a new start.  Unfortunately, they move into the house that they do.  It's a beautiful house with a dark past and even darker spirits that lurk there.  Oh!  And there's also the antichrist!

With "Coven" (2013), it's about a coven of witches in New Orleans.  The one storyline that I've gotten some ideas from is Cordelia's infertility.  She's unable to conceive, and turns to rituals.

Then, there's "Apocalypse" (2018) that is a sequel of sorts to "Murder House" as it follows the antichrist through his shenanigans as a teenager and an adult as he ends the world.
