You stare at the human who's still struggling even though he knows the fight is futile. "And now?", you ask, to which both of your familiars look to you. "What... do we do?"
It feels impossible to speak the words out aloud, to admit that you're about to kill a human. If demons could throw up, you're sure you would already have done so by now. Multiple times.
"There's different ways we could go about it." Heishe frowns, as if he's seriously considering the options, and you stare at him in disbelief. "Heishe!"
He immediately recognizes his mistake and bows. "Apologies, my Queen. I did not intend to seem disrespectful."
With whatever little air he has left, the young man manages a scoff, and Daimon snarls in his ear.
You take a couple steps forward until you're eye to eye with him. "Are you really that opposed to helping us?", you ask. Your despair is evident in your voice, but it's impossible for you to hide it anymore.
Daimon releases his grip on the male's throat a little so he can speak. He takes a deep, gasping breath, then he stares back at you. The hate is still twinkling in his eyes, and it makes your heart sink.
"I would never help the likes of you", the young man spits at you.
"Dear Lord of Hell", Daimon mumbles behind him, visibly impressed with the intensity of his emotions.
"You know you will help us one way or another, right?", Heishe finally decides to enter the conversation, stepping up next to you and looking at the human. "Whether you agree to work with us or you are killed, the outcome is the same, young one. Bear that in mind."
But his words don't have any effect. The young male hisses like an injured snake, pushing against Daimon's grip once more, but to no avail. The glim in his eyes intensifies as he leans forward a bit and whispers: "My family would be ashamed if I gave in to your twisted games that easily, fiend. I would rather die than betray their legacy!"
Dear Lucifer, can we already kill him?, Daimon asks in your head, clearly irritated by the male's behaviour. He's practically begging for it.
Even Heishe's mind is dripping frustration, though he controls himself better than the younger familiar.
What now, my Queen?, he asks, golden gaze fixed on the young man who's returning it with ever-burning fire in his eyes.
It takes you a second, but then you let out a deep breath. "Guess we have no choice", you mumble to yourself. You didn't intend for it, but the words act like a switch ready to be flipped as you accept what must be done – for the Seven, and for Yoongi.
But there's one question remaining, one that you haven't seriously considered before.
How?, you ask.
Heishe puts a hand on your shoulder, making you look at him. The gold in his eyes swirls unsettlingly as he replies.
However you wish.
His input doesn't really help, so you look back to the front. Painlessly, you say. And quickly.
Your familiars don't reply. It's as if they're waiting for you to make a decision, come to a conclusion by yourself, and slowly but surely you get the impression that this is an important moment – like a milestone of your demon-ness, something that is both gruesome and unavoidable.
"Let him go", you say aloud. Your voice is quiet and toneless, and Daimon immediately pulls his arms back and steps away from the man.
You got to admit that the young male's courage is impressive, despite the fact that it is fuelled by hate. He doesn't back down even when you extend your hand and slowly close your fingers around his throat, although goosebumps form on his skin at your cold touch.
Are you sure, my Queen?, Heishe cautiously asks when he realizes what you're planning to do.
You take a deep breath. It's what he deserves.
You can practically feel the doubtful glance that your familiars are exchanging, but it doesn't change your decision.
"What is your name?", you ask the young man, but he knows exactly what your intention is, and he simply scoffs and juts his chin forward defiantly.
"I need no burial from the likes of you", he replies.
You let the words sink in for a couple seconds, giving him the chance to change his mind, and when he doesn't, you simply sigh.
"Very well", you murmur.
For a moment, the demonic part in you pities the young male. His flesh under your fingers is too soft and too vulnerable, the tendons that run through his neck weak in comparison to your demonic ones. You can feel his pulse throb against your fingertips.
Silence fills the air between you as you prepare yourself for what you have to do, but he still doesn't look scared. When you finally ball your fist around his neck in what's nothing more than a quick flex of your arm muscles, his spine is shattered almost instantly. While your fingers squash his spinal cord, your palm crushes the weirdly flexible cartilage of his windpipe.
In only a few seconds, your grip squeezes the life out of him as easily as air escapes from a balloon. It feels like grabbing the foam on top of bath water – unresisting, almost vanishing.
When you let go, nobody catches his limp body as it crumbles to the ground like a straw doll, and still you don't need to check whether he is dead or not – the quick thump of his heart stopped the second you destroyed his spinal cord.
You stand there frozen, like in trance, and it's Heishe who gently shoves you to the side and kneels next to the young man, closing his eyes and then picking him up to do Lucifer knows what with him. You don't care. The shock that you just killed a human with your bare hand sits deep in your bones, and it takes a while for you to grow aware of your surroundings again. Your palm is tingling; you can still feel his flesh, his bones and his windpipe against your skin, like a terrible memento of what you just did.
When you finally muster the strength to look around, your movements slow, Daimon is sitting next to you in his panther form, his tail slung around his paws. He looks up to you with a flick of his ear when he realizes you have returned to your senses. The sun is setting, which means you have been motionlessly standing here for quite a while.
How are you?, his voice resounds through your head.
You look at him for a moment before you reply. Your words sound as empty as you feel.
Awful.
