Inside the waiting room of a hospital, a couple frantically paces on the smooth tiles while muttering reassuring things to themselves.

"Mr and Mrs Jones?" A crisp voice says, not a hint of emotion showing.

The couple looks at the nurse hopefully, twin glints of anticipation in their eyes.

"Your daughter is awake."

And with those words, the two adults' expressions took on a full 180°, pursed lips turning into full-blown grins and eyes filled with despair and only a bit of hope, instantly transformed into wide ones with deep crows-feet at the ends.

"But she has no memory of anything that has occurred within the past years, not even knowing your names." The nurse says, "I'm afraid your daughter has amnesia, permanently."

And as quickly as they had appeared, those happy expressions faded again.

However, what they didn't understand, was the fact that their 'daughter' was just another line of blinking words on a glitchy screen, typed out, then quickly deleted as the familiar clack clack clacking of the keyboard resumed again, this time rewriting a mere side character or cannon fodder, as the main protagonist.
